@ Nucker
Just read that CA article. Gives me a little hope about an Edler trade. Lol at Aquilini having to force Benning to agree to not trade away more picks.

I have heard a few times by the media and Jim saying we feel we need players now . We have plenty of prospects. Not exactly those words but close. It was around TDL and they wanted prospects over picks. Not sure I really blame him.
I know he was not referring to first round or high second rounds picks. I honestly would rather see Edler traded for a high end prospect or top 6 winger over a draft pick. I know it is not the popular choice but I stand by it.
I have heard from a few sources (SN650 mostly) Canucks are looking to move on from Edler. They do have a few prospects in the system including Mceneny who is now 24 and ready . Obviously not as good as Edler but a lot better than Pouliot. I do hope they go a different direction. I like Edler but the time is passing to try a different direction. |

It’s a win against the poopty kings. But I guess a win is a win. |

I think you are right Carol I think it was intentional to see if there are takers for Archibald. Comets blogger Corey H mentioned on Friday that DA needed to be sent back now seeing Boucher had been called up. If he knew about it the Canucks had to know.
Nick Kyper I don't listen too much to what those guys say. Jake is having a good year. |

I'm not sure it's unpopular, I think it's just not smart business for other teams. Who wants to trade a top 6 forward for a rental. Edler certainly could sign with that team but giving up a younger top 6 forward for an over the hill 32 year D man.
Edler certainly isn't going to command what Karlsson got. |

I would have thought a pick or prsospect was easier to acquire than roster player.
If they want Edler for a playoff run, can that same club give up scoring by trading away a player in their top 6?
I can't see Edler retiring if the Canucks don't want him, he might not be a rental if traded to the right club. lots of ifs and buts. who knows. he is a head case. |

The Gaudette goal was almost enjoyable as the win.
You know when Edler is back when pucks bounce off shin pads again and a big difference without Poopalot. |

JV's coming into his own has been fun to see, I think Green has done a hell of a job with him and he didn't look out of place playing 20 minutes last night at all. I think the hangover of those first couple games getting points has worn off and Hutton is the garbage fire defensively that he always has been playing in tough match ups. I don't think he's tradable unless they slot him into the powerplay or something. Gagner seems to have smartened up a bit from his stint in the AHL, both games have been noticeably better. |

Ya it doesn't make a lot of sense, but a prospect over a pick (a la Dahlen) makes plenty of sense. If you're making a run at the playoffs you aren't giving up talent f0r talent, it will always be future's. |

I was thinking more along the line of a Toffoli . I know LA have interest in him. |

The two teams that have wanted Edler according to Botch are Pens and Kings. Both teams may struggle to find a playoff spot.
Kings want to shed salary so a prospect would not be a big savings.

I think LA is in sell off mode and is looking to clear cap. The trade would work but would probably be done sooner rather than later.
That then leaves a nice hole for DP to get back into the line up and the defence would be back to being just as bad.
I think LA could get more for Toffoli in terms of picks and prospects then Edler could though.
I personally wouldn't be willing to give up anything extra for Toffoli. 4 points in 6 games for Pearson in Pitt though. |

It makes sense when a team like LA who wants to shed salary . Why would a team trade a 26 yr old Pearson with 2 more years left for a 30 year old Hagelin whose contract expires this year?
Pearson had one assist in 17 games no team is going to trade a pick for that. Hagelin's contract expires this year so LA get out from Pearson's two remaining years . LA can turn around at TDL and maybe trade Hagelin to a cup contender for a fourth round pick.
LA shed the salary and Pearson has 3 G and 4 pts in 6 games with Pitt who are now back on a winning track. Change the names Pearson and Hagelin for Toffoli and Edler . LA turns around at TDL and trades Edler again to a cup contender and gets out of another contract. |

Virtanen on battle with Phaneuf: "Before warm-up I told him he was gonna be mine all night. Then he hit me pretty hard. I let him know that was a weak hit and to hit me harder next time. I stood him up next time. It was a good battle." |
