Speculation and pathos, but nice. |

This game feels like it should be 6-1 Isles by now. |

Injury in his draft year, at one point he was considered a top 5-10 in that draft, if I remember correctly in his draft -1 year he was even rated top 5 for a while, lucky for us he dropped.
With Holtz, Mercer and Daws already seeing NHL action and Ethan Edwards playing with Hughes in Michigan, the 2020 draft could finally be a draft where we hit it out of the park. Still not sure I'll ever understand the Shakir pick in the 1st round though. |

Mercer>lafreneire - nyrangers2
Only a matter of time before Lafrenriere and Kakko hit their stride, and I'm not looking forward to that day. |

Ranger fans all doom and gloom about Laf in his 2nd year (and his first season was a covid shortened poopshow). Both of those guys are going to be very good players, just are the Rangers willing to wait for them to develop especially when they drastically increased their timeline to be competitive to right now. |

The rangers season hinges on it. It would be very rangers like if they never did lol
This devils team is fun to watch |

I think a lot of it boils down to the old style of talent evaluation in which teams will take the guy who is bigger when they think the players are "even" in ability. It just makes it so size and "strength" are overvalued constantly.
Mukhamadullin is apparently playing top pairing minutes for this KHL team. No clue how he is doing but I still don't think the pick is terrible. He skates really well for his size and I guess has a big shot. Heard some people saying he's playing well but who watches KHL games. |

Seems our center depth will eventually be Hughes, Mercer, Hischier, McLeod, Boqvist.
I can live with that. Mercer’s emergence is epic. Who knows how high his ceiling will be. |

He's so polished. I can't remember a rookie that processes the game as well as him. |

There actually aren't many forwards bigger than mercer that were drafted ahead of him. Lundell, Byfield, and Holloway are really the only ones noticeably bigger. Lundell was a good pick and while I'm not super high on Byfield, I understand why he was rated high. I think it was just a super deep draft and his skillset is better tailored for the pro game than the junior game. |

Mercer's playing full of confidence... just needs to make sure he keeps his head up. One bad hit can turn his game at this point. That's when he'll truly be tested. But he's got some real poise; he's playing like he was taken second overall.
He's a Newfie... these are a different breed of people - had a few on my floor in Uni: they love to party and don't mind rubbing elbows (Newfoundland is like Canada's Ireland). I'd be interested to see a Newfie superstar in this league. Him and Newhook have real shots at becoming big time players, especially if he's as good as he's playing right now... goodness he's electric.
NJ is sort of loaded up on forward talent and it's getting crowded; they're going to have to start managing their assets. When I got like this in Franchise mode, I'd start going after big names on other teams that would fit perfectly in my line-up. Wonder if NJ is going to do the same. |
