Call me crazy, but I would have done Saad for Grossman if I was reasonably sure of being able to re-sign him. Throw in a late pick and get Burish too. - Ogilthorpe2

Hearing talk of Mike Ribeiro to Chicago. - Anaarkey
That would be a salary dump by Dallas; Ribiero at $5M next year doubt it. How about Kari Letonnen instead? |

If Grossman resigns, and picking up Burish helps, then in my opinion, I'd think it is fair.
If you consider Saad as equal to the 2nd and 3rd he fetched, and a 6th or 7th for Burish, the math looks good to me. |

why not overpay
do you not think this team is close?
the window for this core is now and hopefully a few more years but a could injuries could shorten players careers - molly2522
The window is Kane and Toews's contracts. I think that window will peak from 2013 to 2015. I still think guys like Saad Mcneil Denault and Rensfedlt and the Hayes brothers could play a role by then.
Saad for Grossman to me would have been making a move for the sake of making a move and would have been bad for the Hawks. |

Philly gave up the draft choices because they will resign him. They are doubtful on Pronger ever coming back and will let Carle go if he asks for too much.
Bowman probably could have done similar without moving Saad. |

Someone said it earlier, and I'd tend to agree with it. Dallas probably would have wanted more given that the Hawks and Stars are conference rivals. |

Just my opinion, but Saad is worth more than a 2nd and a 3rd, who, for starters, won't be ready to consider for the big club for at least 1 and 2 seasons after Saad could be ready. And then, you have no idea what those picks will be, you don't always get the guy you like at the draft. Plus, you've already had a nice look at Saad, and you like him... Give up the picks and keep Saad. I mean, he was traded for picks........... |

Not really the same. Bird in hand philosophy implies there may or may not be two birds in the bush. Point is you dont know?
You know what you are trading with this move and its Saad a very highly touted prospect who can play a lot of different roles and whom made the team as a rookie.
Would Grossman really make a big differnece this year? |

Didn't understand that was the reason Saad was being mentioned. Still insane, but at least I understand it more. It's not as though Grossman is the only Dman available that can help the Hawks. No reason to blow your load on a UFA who's calibre can be attained elsewhere for less. |

you failed to answer the question
so you dont or do believe the hawks with a few additions can compete for the cup? |

lol, he never said that he didn't think the Hawks can compete for the Cup. Just that Grossman himself isn't going to be the make it or break it for this team. If there is such a factor, it probably lies between the pipes. |

The Flyers had a couple extra picks in their pockets which they used for Grossman. The Stars 2nd round in this years draft and The Kings 3rd round pick in next years draft. BTW the Hawks don't have any extra picks....

whaaaaaattttt? Molly are you drinking the Kool Aid
All in with what? They pretty much stood pat with there roster that year with some people saying we needed to trade for a goalie, that niemi and Huet were not going to cut it, everyone was crying for Vokun. There were Buff rumors running rampant. But the year we won the cup we made very minor moves at the deadline. |

He was traded to Philly for picks, but Dallas reportedly wanted Saad from Chicago. If they would have offered him to Chicago for just the picks, i'd lie to think Stan would've been smart enough to pull the trigger. |

If Saad is so great, why did he slip to the second round?
Given, he broke camp with the Hawks and played 2 games in the NHL. That doesn't mean that he's also destined for stardom, either. Perhaps he is, who knows?
If you're flipping Saad, and not picks, in the trade that was suggested, and getting Grossman back in return and re-signed, you're getting a young solid defensive defenseman for a could be 2nd or 3rd line power forward. |

Barker for Leddy and Johanson. Neither one of them played in the playoffs for the cup team. So, in effect, he subtracted from the team at the deadline. |

Yes if they make the play-offs anything could happen look to the Giants and The Cardinals just this year. But that does not mean selling off your future for minor role players. |

If you believe a solid #4 D-man with size who can also skate would help this team (I do), then yes...he would help a lot. |
