"The young forward is gifted and has not bloomed in Edmonton playing out of position as a winger, but as a center he would not be a great improvement over Tim Connolly, Mikhail Grabovski or Tyler Bozak."
Jumping on the ban wagon ? Lets not get carried away Sam Gagner had a phenominal day last week but lets rate him on his body of work not a projected 82 games x 8 points a game= 656 points. |

Some good points, but Huddle has made the best one in my eyes. This team is simply not good, mean, or big enough to get far into the playoffs. So I think Burke does have something in the works.
Only trade I could see being made with the Oilers is a goalie swap. Khabi + for The monster and maybe a D. Gives the Oilers options in net, we get a veteran back up for Reims.
Carter has legs, he certainly makes this team and top line better, no question there. And I honestly don't think he'll be THAT expensive to aquire.
On the fence for Nash, I would be more excited if him and Kessel didn't play the same position. |

Yea......based on one game his value goes through the roof?? That's BS.... the kid had 22 points all season and wasn't consistent at all..... He did have a hell of a night......the way people were talking I thought they would just refer to him as Jesus from now on |

His body of work suggests he can be a 60-70 point centre in his prime, which is still 4-5 seasons away. 4 months older than Cody Hodgson. In the right situation (see Turris), he can make an impact. |

I rather just keep the monster with Reimer. Unless the return is for futures, and in that case we better be sure that Reimer and Scrivens can carry the load the rest of the way. |

CLB is in the same cap situation we are. Only 1 of those 3 could go and it's definitely not Lombardi. |

I think you guys are saying the same thing. I totally agree that we wouldn't need Gagner over our current C-men. |

Which is why I like the Khabi idea as back up, obviously Oilers would have to sweeten the pot as Khabi is just a salary dump to them. Plus I'm a huge Gus fan and live in Edmonton, so to see him in a Oilers jersey is just dandy |

How did Montreal get Boston to 7 games then? Are they not the munchkins on ice?

It's kinda blown out of proportion but you have to consider his ceiling was always quite high. Eberle & Hall on his wings makes things 10x easier on him, way more space and he's taking advantage. Oilers are dumb to move him with that chemistry. |

Gagner just has some luck on his side right now. If he can take control of it, it could spell GREAT things for Edmonton. If he can become the player they thought he could, mixed with RN, Hall and Eberle then holy crap |

As an outsider to Leaf Nation...
I don't think the Leafs need to make any significant moves this year to be a playoff team in the East. I don't think they are quite at a level to be contenders or anything this year, but a first post lockout playoff appearance seems in reach. I'd look at adding a little offensive depth as long as you don't have to mortgage much in the way of the future. A Dominic Moore redux or a penalty kill specialist would help without having to give up much more then a mid-round pick.
To me, the time where the Leafs can and will make improvements will be at the draft, where they can move a defenseman for a forward and then look at signing a top six forward. No need to mortgage the future when the club probably isn't in a position to be a Cup contender. |

True enough. The problem for the Oil is the lack top pairing defensemen and lack of a proven goalie who can carry the load (I discount Khabibulin as a solution due to age and inconsistency). The forward corps in Edmonton is fine...its the other end of the ice where the problems lie. |

I think once the D gets fixed up, than Dubnyk will be a good goalie for you. He has decent numbers considering his win-loss ratio and the fact there is NOBODY any good on the D in front of him.
If Edmonton could get a solid 1-2 on the back end you guys would be a playoff team I think. |

My opinion, Mike: Unless C-Bus is GIVING us Nash or Carter (I mean, we don't give more than one 3rd round pick, or we give up Komi's contract or Lombardi), I would not make either of those deals.
Personally, I wouldn't make any deals at the deadline, and would be more focused on getting Grabo, Kule, Joey's got Crabbs and Boyce signed before they hit the market.
Nash or Carter or anything else from the poisonous Jackets, I wouldn't touch on a bet.
My two cents. |
