Stutzle and it's not even close. Top 6 wingers like Caufield can be signed or traded for on a regular basis...Marner, Ehlers, Hagel, Holloway, Guentzel, DeBrincat.
Quick, name a handful of top 6 centers that moved in recent years? Not aging veterans like Kadri or Monahan. Top centers under 27. They don't get moved.
Bad take. Stutzle for Caufield would be historically lopsided trade. |

Bo Horvat, Jack Eichel, Sam Bennet, Josh Norris, Dylan Cozens and Pierre-Luc Dubois to name a few were traded at 27 or younger if thats what you mean by "got" moved. Also what is a top 6 centre? Stutzle won less than 200 draws last season, he's not even the top centre on OTT. Did any of the wingers you named get "moved"? Where in this article did it say this was a Stutzle for Caufeild trade debate? I think the bad take here might be yours |

Now we're going further back in time. My winger list would grow exponentially. I'll give you Horvat. Eichel forced a trade. So maybe I'll add Tkachuk to my list then. Bennett was traded long before he became the player he is today. Norris, Cozens, and Dubois don't really belong in this conversation.
No the article didn't refer to a trade. But it's implied. If Caufield is the superior player than one would be pretty thrilled trading Stutzle to acquire him. No GM would ever do that. Stutzle is far, far more valuable.

Other than both players being on teams set to compete for the final playoff spot in the east, these players aren't comparable.
Stutzle is a reliable and adpaptable 1C. Not elite, but extremely useful in most situations. Coaches need players like Stutzle.
Caufield is a winger and offensive specialist. An elite level goal scorer, but less reliable in many situations. Useful to coaches, more valued by fans.
Every team would select a 1C over a top-6 winger. |

Timmy Flopper. I've called him that for a while now.
Of course, I'm still a little bitter about him blossoming after being drafted and us (NYR) selecting Lafreniere instead. |
