They always claimed to be playing the same system, but if you watch the Phantoms play it’s very different game. Having two different systems is really counter-productive to moving guys up from the AHL into the big league.

No they didn't.

https://phillyhockeynow.c...ork-torts-ian-laperriere/

When Tortorella meant with Laperriere, he told him, “It’s your call with the way you go.’ Because I want them to win, also.”

In the AHL regular season Laperriere finished 5 of 8, 6 of 8, and 6 of 8 the last 3 years. He's "successful" because 72% of the AHL makes the playoffs.

Remember when Torts was "surprised" at how bad Drysdale was coming from a different defensive system because he doesn't believe in them?

Torts can now be criticized now that he's no longer a Flyer it seems.

Hey, it's great that DB is making all these changes but he should've made these changes long ago. The writing was on the wall for a long time on much of this and people like to pretend that much of what happened hasn't been obvious for a long time (such as the different systems, they were open about it). He's the last guy to the party but if some people want to give him his flowers for finally doing what needed to be done personnel wise, go ahead.

Lappy was a warrior on the ice and the Flyers showed loyalty after his career ended after getting hit in the face twice, but he really didn't deserve to be the AHL head coach. Tocchet is in and I look forward to seeing some new faces behind the bench with him. The Flyers were a losing team with Shaw as a bench coach and head coach, so I'm not sorry to see him leave. Hopefully Tocchet brings in a winning mentality to the Flyers team? It will be a moot point if DB doesn't bring in some talent for Tocchet to work with.

Thrilled. Now we may have a developmental program down there. Personally, I like Ian, more than I can say for the big club's ex-coach.

Part of cleaning house and I’m fine with it. I’d be very happy to replace him with a young up and coming coach from junior or ncaa ranks. We have to get it right because it’ll have a big impact on all the young players we’re going to be drafting the next few years.

I really don't know how Lappy lasted as long as he did. Next!
