The issue with Marner and Matthews is they took the most money possible and leafs haven’t been able to afford help. So when they don’t score or show up in the playoffs the pressure builds.

This year they have knies going, nylander going and some secondary scoring plus dman scoring. Hopefully this can free them up and they get in a groove here.

I’d be more concerned with the fact Fatty is going EP34 Houdini.

I agree. This guy needs to be signed long term. Marner is replaceable due to the Cap. You can get a couple of really good UFA's for $14M. Nikolaj Ehlers from the Jets would be available. Same draft as Nylander. You might get him on a long term deal for $6M per. You could really build a good team around Matthews, Nylander and Knies. The defense is already accounted for on the Cap next year. The window would still be open for a few more years.
