Complete revisionist work here.
Brown had 12 points in 71 games last year, 30 points in 82 games this year. He's a serviceable player but is absolutely interchangeable with any other bottom 6 forward in the league. He's no star.
When Hyman left Toronto to sign in Edmonton for 5 milly/season NOBODY thought that was a good move for the Oilers. He had two good statisical seasons playing with McJesus and his numbers cratered back down to earth this year. I love the type of game he brings to the table, but him back in the Leafs lineup isn't putting them over the top.
Or, let's play the game where you add his 5 million AAV in to our lineup, who do you subtract to pay for that? That means no Chris Tanev and you have half a million in cap room. - Kinger34
Not true. The Leafs made mistakes keeping the wrong guys at the wrong prices. And then spent years trying to replace them with bargain big players that never worked.
No Jarnkrok, no Kampf, no Reaves is the easiest 5 million I've ever calculated.

Looks a little too much like the Predators but still pretty good.
Could be a lot worse. They picked the right name.
They could have gone with Brigadiers after Brigham Young but maybe that's because I just finished watching American Primeval. |

these guys came after he was gone.
the Leafs simply could not afford him. Pretty simple. Not sure why you are making a big deal out it. Hindsight is what it is. |

TJ Brodie, Holl, Kerfoot, Simmonds...there was a lot of money wasted.
The Leafs were giving Hyman 2.25 AAV. Kerfoot was making 3. If they had dumped that useless pylon, they could have given Hyman his raise and replaced Kerfoot with literally anybody in the AHL and it would have been the same because Kerfoot absolutely sucked but he was Dubas' pet from the idiotic Kadri trade. |

One of the worst case scenarios for concussions is having multiple concussions in a short period of time.
What you are thinking makes perfect sense however I would add that perhaps the puck to the head gave him a minor concussion and he decided to continue playing because it's the playoffs and he's a goalie who has probably faced 1000 shots off the mask before. Then, the elbow to the head, gave him a second concussion in such a short period of time that now he has a much more severe concussion.
It's also possible that the elbow gave him whiplash which has similar symptoms to a concussion including nausea and throwing up. It happened to Crosby where he had two concussions very close to one another and he found out way later that it was actually a neck injury making his symptoms worse. - Rare_Jewel
Honestly, the elbow was intentional, but not that hard. If I had to guess based on the angles I saw, he hit Stolarz in the temple. Doesn't have to be hard when you get hit there.

The Leafs valued Kerfoot more than Hyman. This was seen when they traded for McCann and let him got in the expansion draft instead of Kerfoot. |

They protected the greatest Wings defenseman Justin Holl.

Another Dumbass Dubas mistake. - Rare_Jewel
At the time it was reported as a shrewd move by Dubas. What’s the point in harping on things when you have the benefit of hindsight.
Lets talk about getting Knies with a second round pick. |

Reported by who? Idiots?
When it happened, it was clear as day to me that Kerfoot was garbage and McCann was worth keeping.
Yes, let's talk about Knies and the 2nd round. He's great. And unfortunately, literally the only impact player the Leafs have drafted that wasn't a top 10 / lottery pick since 2016.
Now let's name the other failures of 1st and 2nd round picks from 2017 until present.
The Leafs have traded every single 1st round pick from 2017 to 2027. That's a lost decade of drafting for rentals and depth players. 2nd round doesn't look much better. |

No, let's talk more about the Leafs drafting in the 1st and 2nd round...
2014 - Nylander
2015 - Marner, Dermott
2016 - Matthews, Korshkov
2017 - Liljegren, Rasanen
2018 - Sandin, Durzi
2019 - Robertson
2020 - Amirov, Hirvonen
2021 - Knies
2022 - Minten
2023 - Cowan
2024 - Danford
And then people wonder why the Leafs have no depth behind their star players. |

Woll has better playoff stats than Stolarz. Just saying! - systemtool
He not only has better playoff stats, he has elite play off stats against the Panthers and the Bruins no less.
Those numbers are hard to keep up but the Leafs are strong in net with Woll...if he's healthy...
Luckily, Matt Murray is the new back-up and he's been here before.
The Leafs have multiple options in net for once. |

I don't think this is true. Hyman was too expensive to fit under the Cap so he had to let him walk.
Not protecting McCann though... just another Dubious Dubas mistake. |
