Marner can be replaced. You can take the hit in regular season points at a far more economical price point and strengthen elsewhere. I'm of the belief Knies cannot be replaced at this point, and he's only going to get better. That's the difference.

The beauty for Marner is he can always change the narrative with one episode of being the guy to take the team deeper. It's awesome he scored just then, but as of now he's a guy wanting 13 million + who hasn't scored a goal between games 5-7 in his last 21 attempts.

You need your big money contracts to deliver when it matters. Willies the only one to do it so far.

I dont like his at $13m, but i also dont like Matthews at $13.5 either

A guy like Ehlers and his 60 points at half the salary with 6-7 million to make improvements elsewhere still puts you in the playoffs.

As of now Marner has never ever done anything remotely close to putting the team over the hump when it counts, so you're not losing anything there. As I said though, will just take one series to change that story.

I like ehlers, i guess it depends on what kind of depth you get with the other $5m.
No one on this team has done anything to put the team over the hump. Maybe JTs goal to beat the Lightning....maybe willys consistent play.
