NYR will give you Zac Jones (NHL ready) and a second rd pick.

If you don’t know, Zac Jones is a smallish offensive LHD. He’s very skilled with the puck but his defense is a work in progress. His size is definitely a hindrance. But he could run a PP and bring offense and would’nt demand crazy money, he’s 800k and change right now.

They also have plenty of LWs in the pipeline. Sykora could be of interest. Othmann and Cuylle are non starters, off limits sorta speak. Rangers could use a LHD with size for down the road and will probably lose Gustaffson next season

Anyway, just throwing it out there

is Broberg that bad, or have the Oilers failed him by not providing him with a defensive partner that can mentor him?

The Oilers Defense, in my opinon, have lacked strong leadership for many years.

Oilers have not drafted/scouted or developed prospects for much more than a decade. Goes back to the dawn of the salary cap era at the very least.

Over the past 18 years, if you look at the prospects that they have drafted (rather high I might add) that have gone bust (sign of poor scouting and/or poor development) OR drafted but traded away just prior to that players career taking off, it’s quite shocking.

It also doesn't help he was never given any runway. Anytime something bad happens on the ice during his shift, it's defaulted to his fault and he's sitting on the bench for 80-90% of the rest of the game. When you've got people like Vinny (I like Vinny, but he's an easy comparision) and even Kulak giving the puck away in prime position and are right back out there next shift. How is the kid supposed to gain any confidence at the NHL level when coach just staples his ass to the bench?

He was showing good progress from 2022 to 2023 season. He was brutal in a small sample this year though.

Rishaug saying Holland says he has not granted Broberg and his reps permission to seek a trade.

To be honest, I'm on the fence between Broberg and Bouchard. With Broberg it seems to be a confidence issue, likely brought on by management's lack of confidence in him. On the other hand, we have Bouchard, who is so nonchalant that he coughs up the puck every shift. I am obviously not 100% sure of this, but I do wonder "what if" their roles were reversed...i.e. if they gave Broberg all of this leeway and annointed him as the next PP guy etc. and they kept jamming Bouchard's gears. I remember Broberg absolutely dominating at the World Juniors and he was at the very top of the Oilers' prospect list. Hopefully this isn't a hasty decision to not accommodate Broberg.

After seeing his performance so far this year, I'd almost give away Bouchard. Teams don't win with guys like that.

Another bust in EDM IS it the player or the Management of said player. Seems that a lot of players go there to die.

Multiple coaches now doing this. Obviously starting to be a player issue.

He never impresses. Every year same thing. High hopes that he's going to take the next step, but never does. Not sure if the guy just doesn't train properly in the off-season or if his IQ is non-existent as many fans having been suggesting for quite some time.

Starting to think he doesn't practice as hard as he should be too.
