I’m going to make a bold claim here and say Veleno is the same player he’s always been and his 5 goals on 11 shots isn’t sustainable production.
Also Rasmussen sucks. See if Tire Kicking Kenny wants him. |

There is never anything “bold” about what you say. It is always miserably and sarcastically/condescendingly predictable. You are consistently the most negative person on this entire site. You never have anything optimistic, constructive or positive to say about anything or to anyone. Go for a walk. Ask a girl out on a date. Do something. |

Beating up on the non playoff teams like CBJs, Pens, Flames, a no goalie Bolts is not the same as playing the legit teams. |

It looks like he’s skating harder and has gotten stronger. That’s an opinion. You are right that his production on those metrics isn’t sustainable. But is there an argument to, while he’s in a good place, letting Copp move to the third line and letting Joe skate with the second line. Copp is better defensively but seems frustrated. It could easily switch back but adding speed to that second line may help on the attack. I have no problem being wrong, just a pondering. |

You are completely right. I’m trying to balance the improvement with the deficit. Boston pounced and Detroit scrambled a bit in the first. The effort in the third for the past two games looked like a different team. It feels like that energy at puck drop could change the dynamic. |

One quick hit about the draft. The league has said it needs a substitute for the player walking up to the podium. This wasn’t just Neandering. From the write up:
Perhaps the most uncertain portion of a decentralized draft is player/prospect participation. The league will need to figure out a suitable substitute for players getting called up to a podium and putting on their team’s jersey – one of the most seminal moments in many players’ pro careers.
It sounds like that isn’t happening at this point |

If Kenny wants him, it may be Raz and a RD (retained salary) for Kane.
Chiarot is actually playing better, at least you have that. |

I haven’t heard a scenario where Kane hasn’t been rough on a team’s locker room. Maybe he’s found a groove in Edmonton, but if the experiences out of ATL/WPG (Byfuglien), Buffalo and San Jose are at all accurate, that’s not a great fit. Players can change, I’ve heard that Marchand has been a lot more stable in the locker room, but if it’s true that Ottawa is looking at a possible move for Kubalik, that may be a better return depending on asking price. |

Honestly not opposed to shuffling things around but when they play better team it shows there’s still too many passengers and not enough guys that can create on their own. Still expect them to be an above average team that’s in the wild card mix until late in the season. Even though I’m so negative or whatever |

No, that was where you were dead on. Boston was a better team. That start to the 3rd was the most fun of watching. It just seemed like the Bruins know each other so well and were ready for everything at the start. Getting beat by a better team doesn’t sting like a wasted opportunity. There just seems to be a weird disconnect at the beginning of the games. Does anyone know if they’re doing the soccer or hockey sack stuff in pre game? It seems useless but some teams really get a jolt. I used to love watching Pav with a soccer ball. He was a special player and used being “Pigeon Toed” in a way that was baffling. Of the exodus of the old guard, he’s one I miss quite a bit. |

From the start of summer camp season, we all knew this team wasn't a serious contender...but could surprise folks. The first handful of games was awesome to see, and provide hope for what could be an improved team this year. If any of us thought we could sustain that performance, I'd offer that thought may have been mis-guided; we were playing teams with performance issues. Once we ran into teams that were stacked, problems started showing up and we started losing. The season's not lost, we KNOW this can be a much-improved team, they just need to re-group. Watch our zone entries and opponent's fore-checking against us; the gaps have been discovered.
There could be some changes that might help, I like Veleno on the 2d line & dropping Copp for example. There have been some really surprising players like Ghost, Veleno's better, Compher's solid, and so on. But this is a team that'll need to fight hard to be a serious contender in a stacked division/conference...and right now I don't think they're fighting over a full 60min, which is costing us.
Just my random thoughts.....still love the Wings!!! |

Once again... down 2-0 after the first period to a playoff team. Not sure what it's going take for this team to put in a solid 20 minutes in the first period. It's deflating to the whole team to start out of the gate like that. Might need to do some line juggling to wake up the offense (i.e. Scotty Bowman style). I'd have no problem with Veleno on the 2nd line. Secondary scoring has dried up... need to fix that. |

Honestly Boston got some good play out of swayman. Could have been a different story if a couple of those chances go the wings way.
Several blogs ago you posted if the wings would have any 40 goal scorers. I was hesitant to post, but I honestly think debrincat can do it this year.
Also think you hit the nail on the head. Boston knows one another. I think this wings team is going to be buzzing once the team is 20 games in. Just need time. That 10-12 minutes of speedy play they showed was nerve racking.

Wings will be in the hunt for a postseason spot for sure. A little more time to get used to each other will do wonders.
There is a lot to look forward to. Just be happy your not the oilers |

Swayman was unreal. His positioning looked effortless. The hyper speed play that came in the third was pretty captivating |

They are trying to have CMD on the ice. There was some blurb about WPG having bad ticket sales. I thought they were sold out on season tix for years, or has that dried up? |

I read the same about the Peg, not doing stellar on season tickets and attendance there.

What happened? I haven’t heard that there’s a ton of other entertainment. Inflation issues? Last I checked U.S. Dollar was equal to 1.41 Canadian. Still, Winnipeg had screaming fans at the draft when the Atlanta move was announced (I think it was at a draft). |

The Red Wings are not as bad as they played the last 3 games, nor as good as the previous 6 games. I figure they are somewhere in between. |

Wow. That was an awkward exchange. Just over 11K at one point? Those are not good numbers and companies have cut way back on incentives. The thought that companies will invest in season tickets and help course correct may be a bit premature.
Thank you for sending that. The NHLPA met and agreed to have AZ audited on all of their away games. They’re looking for any violation to try and force ownership to get into a building with higher capacity. The last thing they wanted to deal with was fan loss in other markets. Wow. |
