Amen. Like the rugby game in “The Meaning of Life”. Though, sadly, those AHLers had skill and made some plays. Has me a little nervous sending out our “b team”.

That is a key comment. On at least 2 goals the Dman wasn’t in place. 1 as Seider went behind the net Walman hadn’t covered the post. Another when Petry left way too much space (but so did the goalie).

I wouldn’t mind seeing a move made, but also hoping some of this was rust and/or inexperience (in Edvinsson’s case). We’ll see how they look going forward through the preseason. Walman was probably not happy (nor Seider) but Reimer didn’t look super comfortable. I’m cutting slack, it’s the pre season, but if there’s a chance to get an upgrade i hope they take it

What terrible coverage. Didn't even mention who scored for Pitt.

Don't quit your day job.

If all you want is information you can find in the box score, you can get that anywhere.

If you want a recap that tells the full "story of the game" from a neutral third party perspective, I hate to break it to you but those don't really exist anymore. Most fans prefer to get their recaps either from YouTube or from writers/outlets that cover games specifically from their favorite team's perspective.

Incidentally, I pulled up the game recap from Pensburgh.com. I noticed that their recap also failed to identify two of Detroit's scorers (Seider and Rasmussen, specifically). Which I don't have a problem with because their readers don't care. They want to know what the takeaways are for the Penguins, not a dry recounting of what happened. Again, you can get that from the box score or the highlights.

For the most part, I cover the Red Wings. Even during the regular season I post any goals they score and talk about that team. X has changed twitter rules and I haven’t been allowed to embed. I leave posting the Pitt goals to the Pitt channel. This is a blog, and I focus on Wings. During the regular season, once the regulars are on ice, I’ll talk some about the opposing personnel but especially for a preseason tilt I’m paying attention to the main team. I apologize that this write up didn’t appease you.

Red Wings blog, there big guy. May have missed that early on.......

@JEREMY: You have NO reason to apologize to anyone. Your coverage of the DETROIT RED WINGS is spot on, you've no need to cow-tow to other teams nor their fans.

My biggest takeaway from watching this game was pretty clear:
Rasmussen is back and he hasn't skipped a beat from the end of last season. If he keeps playing with an edge and driving to the net he's going to be a beast. I've noticed how much better he protects the puck now when he's got it in the offensive zone and he circles the net. Looks like he's finally learned to use that huge body of his to his advantage. They just need to keep him on the wing and not ever move him back to center.

Watching Danielson score was icing on the cake. I think this kid is going to be a great NHL player. I liked the pick from the beginning.

Still think Lyon should be Husso's backup... not Reimer.

Agree across the board. Reimer looked bad. I knew nothing about Danielson. He looks so young but was visible out there. Ras has really embraced playing like a “big man”. I can’t get a straight answer. Some have said his knee cap was broken by puck, others just a bad bone bruise. Either way, he was missed and definitely works better on the wing

Finally got to watch the game on tape-delay last night. I love watching vs listening because I can see what goes on off the puck....

Ras was impressive. Not sure he'll ever live up to his billing, but I think he's going to carve out a niche' presence for the team and be a valuable contributor. Big bodies take time to grow into themselves (my son is 6'4" and 235lbs in the Army... STILL finding out who he is & how he fits in with his unit....want him to play rugby, but another discussion for a different blog ). He's using his body to create space, something he's not done before. Passing is improving. I like what I see with him.....

Danielson is scary good, for his age. Such a smooth skater, sublime puck movement and a VERY nice release. He's going to be VERY good.

Cat & Larks will be 2/3 of a good line, high energy, fast. Not sure Perron would be best suited but he looked better than last year. Raymond's speed would be the type of speed I'd throw on that line to gain some scoring, drive the offense.

Mo Sides/Walman is 1D. They just click. That's going to be a very powerful line going forward. Petry looked ok, but he seemed to be a step behind in play at times. Eddy looked good, overall, but needs to germinate in the bus leagues some more. I liked what I saw w/Wallinder; good hands, great vision (but a step late in getting there - needs work), think he's going to be a strong D-Man.

We have issues in net. Reimer isn't 2G. Bednar looked pretty ok. Want to watch Lyon, before I put this in stone, but: I think 2G is Lyon's to lose. Reimer may be a good 3G, but he's too unsteady, slow to react, his hands are slow (blocker/glove hand....make sense?). Might be getting the rust off, but he's a professional hockey player, he needs to do that before pre-season.

We shouldn't have been that close in score vs an AHL team. LONG way to go.....let's see what tonight brings.........

Larkin and Debrincat already have some kind of chemistry. I do wish we had a big guy on that line that could skate and contribute. Was so happy for Danielson and impressed as he didn’t over celebrate. Just went to the bench and got the pat on the back. I like seeing Edvinsson getting stirred up. He has some good tools and I hope Seider gets to work with him a bit
