Habs will compete for a playoffs spot this year.
Unless they lead the league in games missed due to injury again. |

well the Rangers were the least injured team last year, so this Jim Ramsay fella might know what he's doing... |

A little over a week after the NHL draft, some fans still don’t get it, building a contender is not an overnight endeavor, much like freshly drafted prospects don’t become stars overnight. - Karine Hains
great blog Karine, and I agree 100% that fans need to be patient. in a way I do understand some of the frustration since we haven't seen an offensive superstar in MTL for ages (literally), so there's an eagerness there to see the new management team acquire/draft one as soon as possible, but the rebuilding process still needs to be done properly, without trying to cut corners or make picks just because it would please the fanbase.
that being said, fans that posted all those hate messages towards Reinbacher need to take a break from hockey, and seek help for their obvious personal issues. |

People won't be talking about Michkov when Caufield scores 48 goals next season.

Another aspect not mentioned, but very important, is having the bad contracts leave.
Then it will be all about having the players that fit the scheme, or style MSL wants to play.
Gally has never been what anyone would call a good skater, and that deficiency will and should cost him his roster spot. Not now.....but next year, maybe year after..... |

yeah, I thought about this too, if he keeps the same pace as last year and stays healthy, Cole will be on a roll... 48 would almost be frustrating though, why not make it 50 then

of all the bad contracts they need to get rid of, Gallagher would be at the bottom of the list imho... he's more likely to bounce back than any other. who knows, with Ramsay's help he might even stay healthy loll |

Because we need to stay grounded into reality and not set the bar too high Pat.

The thing about the Habs is that they never went into a re-build, and this re-build is a total organizational one - from the players, management, and everything in between (including a big change in attitude/commitment from ownership).
In a market of "we have a goalie, just make the play-offs and anything can happen" attitude, the repetitive process of getting random players, trading picks / prospects for older players, etc... this is a nice change.
The challenge from the fan base is that they have never been through this process, so (to your point) they need to just sit back, chill, and enjoy the experience.
This is a wild ride, and to be honest, while the on ice product is nto there yet, I have not had this much fun following the Habs in years.

I love Gallagher to death but he's not gonna score 25-30 goals in the NHL anymore.
At some point (not now) his contract might be in the way of other moves for us to compete and we'll need to decide what we do with it.
Until then, he's a great veteran to have around and he'll help our bottom 6.

I think he is a 40 goal guy.
And TBH, I am very happy with that. I think we have a shot at another 4-5-6 25+ goal guys (not saying next year, but in a few more years), and I would prefer a more spread out offence - harder to defend and if someone goes cold we are not screwed.

AgrEEd. I like where they are headed and look forward to seeing the team after the bad contracts are gone and HuGo can move forward

oh I'm not saying he's gonna score 30 again but he might be able to bring his game up to a more acceptable level. a decision will surely need to be made concerning the very last years of his contract but for now he isn't a huge problem they need to get rid of.

I think it's too early to say but it'll also probably depend a lot on who he and Suzuki will be playing with... if they get the right partner I feel the sky's the limit (disguise delimit lol) for these guys.

Gallagher's biggest problem is Gallagher.
Love Gallagher's heart and desire to play, but he gets injured and comes back before ready.
Looking forward to the new medical and rehab team putting the breaks on this and making sure he (and every other player) does not go out there just to be out again a few games later.

Well, we also got Hoffman and Armia to drive the offence, so goals a plenty.

totally agreed. Ramsay will probably have a lie detector ready, so that when he's asking the players about their health there won't be any bullpoop.

I'm still hoping Armia gets on one of his rare hot streaks and charms a team looking for depth. I mean... he CAN be effective in the right situation.
Hoffman is just a terrible, horrible player to have on your team and we are stuck with him until at the very least the TDL imho.
Did I mention I hate Hoffman?

His contract is to be mutually terminated according to the latest news.
What a weird situation.

I think, if all the card drop properly, a team in the hunt for the cup loses a forward deep into the season and Hoffman is their cheap answer. The guy is not terrible, he is just not going to play top 6 in Montreal, so his stats reflect that.
I appreciate he has not caused problems on the team and goes out to play.
That being said, I would like him gone before camp, but that seems very unrealistic.
