There are all these videos, and you can go down a (frank)ing deep dive of them on youtube alone, of animals that have been caged up, never seen daylight or touched grass that are rescued and get to do that for the first time.

As someone who grew up on a farm with animals and took care of horses in a stable for a number of years, I cannot watch those videos anymore because I truly get mad.

That is so (frank)ed up to me.

The level of cruelty.

I feel you, 100%. as much as I find that was a nice story, it's still really (frank)ed up what happened all those years before, wtf.

I read a book a couple of years ago, talking with chimps. It's a psychologist who taught sign language to a group a chimps and his project was to see if one had a baby would he learn sign language from the other members of the group. To see if language is just a trick we can teach them or if really passed down in higher primates and the baby learned sign language.

But alot of the chimps for the group were loaned from the millitary or pharmaceutical industry and they little chimp's father was reclaimed before he was born and like 30 years later they were doing a slideshow for the mother's birthday and they had old pictures or her mate (the baby's dad) so she grabbed her boy pointed at the pictures, signed his name and started crying and that changed my perspective forever.

most people on here know i love animals so that part does break my heart.

last year there was a story about these elephants that had never even seen grass before. i think they were circus elephants iirc. seeing them roam around free was awesome but knowing what their entire life was like up until that was heartbreaking, yeah.

The circus is not good, even in the best zoos with huge enclosure it's problematic for elephants, they are very smart, need the best enrichment programs to keep the stimulated.

Unfortunately projections says they will gone from the wild in the next decade

When it's loss of habitat that declines population, it still sucks but at least if we create sanctuaries and national parks they can stabalize and even flourish. But straight up poaching I just can't wrap my head around it.

It can, but narcotics are highly controlled substances, I doubt a circus has vets and a liscence for it. If human lives are in danger cops will shoot.

We have 2 person here trained for the airgun with tranq darts, they also have a sarbacanne for day to day stuff but they try to train the animals to receive injections and get bloodwork whitout anesthesia

I did like a french fellow here talking about teaching chimps a new language. because here, when you tell a french person to learn a second language, they start acting like a chimp
