It just started raining here an hour ago...nothing all day long. I was supposed to have a BBQ with friends...they cancelled.
So...I'm stuck at home, don't really know what to eat, don't really feel like cooking... |

Savard + 5 kids was fun to watch, TBH.
Savard really came up big and took on a hell of a leadership role.

for any of you/us habs fans who are disappointed, upset or otherwise think they are smarter than the current habs decision makers, don't let your emotions override your brains.
understand that a "rebuild" is from the organizational core, up! it means being methodical and filling in key pieces one piece at a time. it means being smart, patient and opportunistic. the dream of michkov is just that. the next coming of lafleur? richer? naslund? bedard 2.0? maybe. maybe not. but one certainty about michkov is that management and we habs fans wouldn't know for sure for at least 3 years. and in that 3 years, the canadiens management would have no control over his development, or in his integration into the core of this organization that they are building. in other words, too many unknows and too many uncontrolables.
this canadiens management group is too smart to leave that much to chance at this early point of their rebuild. we habs fans finally have a competent management group running the team. we just got through 9 years of bergevin flying by the seat of his pants.
it's high time that we habs fans accept and embrace a full rebuild. the pick of reinbacher in the first round was the right move at the right time. i trust in that when the right time comes to add the next lafleur, richer or naslund level talent, this group of hughes and gorton will have the means and the vision to make it happen.

It definitively was the right pick ... ignorant fefans always only look at sexy forwards when draft time comes. A lot of them want the "glitzy" players before the fundamentals are covered.
A strong defense core is the foundation of Cup winning teams ... look at Vegas this year and then look at the Leafs and Oilers. They sure have a lot of "sexy frat boys" but no Cups ... I rest my case.
I'm a dinosaur who remembers the Habs perennial cup winners of the 70's ... yes we had Lafleur, Shutt and Lemaire but we wouldn't have won (frank) all without the Big Three behind them. |

that being said, if Smith is available at 5 instead of Michkov.... not sure they pick the dman. that's the question I would have liked them to ask the GM lol |

Good question, we'll never know I guess ... one way or another we were getting a good player in this draft.
I, for one, am very happy that we have built our D for years to come as it take longer to develop them ... offense can continue being built in coming years.
It's usually easier filling out the wings ... we could use a stud centerman though. |

Rob121 made a very good point ... we wouldn't have had any control on Michkov development for the next 3 year.
It's obvious the Habs management were not ready to roll the dice on him ... and I don't blame them one bit when you can get a much needed asset (RHD) that carries much less risks and for which you have some "control". |
