Not sure how you can say a guy that has barely played the last 3 seasons is a good player. - Feds91Stammer
When Ellis did play, he was damn good. Think he had over a PPG...in a very (VERY!) limited sample. |

Sadly, I think the Pens are on a better path to rebuilding than the Flyers are. We both have vets on long term, high dollar deals. Yours are Crosby and Malkin; ours are Hayes and Ristolainen. Flyers have MORE prospects but very few that project as high-end. - jmatchett383
You guys have Torts though. Torts is like skateboarding, weeds out the pussies and posers in no time. |

Yes, it's been closer to .910 in years prior.
Goaltending isn't without fault on this team. Neither the defense nor the bottom six score enough goals. Don't forget some of the forwards classified as the bottom six have had time in the top six and time on the second power play. For arguments sake, I'm putting Rust on the top line.
Guentzel/Crosby/Rust...80 goals
Zucker/Malkin/Rakell....75 goals
Bottom Six (All others)..55 goals
All Defensemen............28 goals
The defense is near the bottom in the league in goal scoring. For a team that 'activates the D', that is unacceptable. Even more than the goaltending. Just my two cents. - Thunderbolt
So frustrating watching our D get a pass form downlow with time, only to dust it off and throw it back into the corner. They never seem ready to shoot and almost always dbl clutch and have to pass it off. Faceoffs, low to high, trailer. Doesn't matter.
I wonder if anyone tracks one timers because they are (frank)ing rare on this team. |

That was a playoff game for both of those teams last night and the Pens completely dominated it. Preds were only 3 points out of 2nd WC with two games in hand when the puck dropped. To those saying the Pens are making Saros look like an allstar or Roy, you haven't been paying attention. He's been one of the better goalies this season and one of the main reasons they are still in the playoff mix. If the league average is .904 he's well above it at .917
Hopefully the Pens can make the game at least interesting tomorrow. Very well could be a first round preview....

Torts was good a coaching back when you could talk to players like adults. Now they have to be coddled and told that everything is okay. That's just the reality of the situation, and Torts' methods aren't built for that kind of player. |

Ive actually said for a long time he's the kind of coach thats great the first season or two...gets a team working hard every night...but then his A-hole ways wear thin on locker rooms... |

Pretty much. He's the guy you can use the set up the next coach.
The Flyers were a complete tire fire from top to bottom. It was a complete poop show. Torts even said that, while he expected the on-ice play to be a mess, he was shocked at how the organization was a mess. The players had become accustomed to being okay with losing and no accountability. He seems to be incrementally getting them to at least compete and give a damn, and hopefully can help management to weed out players who don't *coughKevinHayescough*. But yeah, he's not the long-term solution. |

Kind of like Therrian was for Bylsma. He made the Pens much more defensively sound and harder working...then Bylsma came in and slacked their leashes a bit but they still had the sound defensive tendencies from Therrian. Ive always said that Therrian was a big factor in that 2009 cup.

Therrien always seemed like a bit of a low-key bumhole to me. |
