But way to go Tippett! He is putting them in the net now so I won't complain about that. He has really progressed nicely this year under Torts |

Torts is challenging him and tippett is growing from it. Its good to see. Everyone torts bashing constantly is crazy. Might not be a great x and o coach but he can grow the psyche of someone….. or the weak will just leave . Torts was great for dubious but he couldnt handle him. |

What numbers are we talking about. There is always a chance that Couturier can come back healthy and get back to where he was. - MJL
Do you really believe Coots will be back to where he was? I've said it before that I'm a big Coots fan and appreciate all he did for us over the years, but realistically, I don't see how a guy in his 30s playing a grueling sport for many years will get back to where he was. I hope you are right and would love to see it, but this isn't like he broke a finger. He's been out over a year, so obviously, it is a serious injury. You have stated before that Risto isn't young anymore but he is younger and played fewer seasons than Coots. Risto will never improve according to you.

Tippet is a goal scorer but Frost is involved in more scoring chances. If the Flyers had better finishers in the lineup. Frost's assist total would be significantly higher. Tippet has the shot and release to be a 30 goal scorer in this league, maybe more but there's not much else to his game. At least not yet. Frost is the better all around player and with his shot and ability to score 20 or so plus his playmaking ability. I think he has the potential to be the better overall point producer. - MJL
Yeah you keep believing that. Out of all the hills to die on this is close to the dumbest.
The future may change but Tippet at this point has much more of an impact on the games than MF does.
I like Frost but I don’t see teams concentrating on stopping Frost as they are targeting OT.
More often than not OT is the best flyers player on the ice.

I agree with this. I am growing to like Frosty as well, but I see more out of Tippett. Frosty was a Hexy pick so he is obviously automatically better than Tippett or pretty much anyone else not drafted by Hexy

It’s nice to have a sniper on the roster. Even when we were good, we’ve not had this since Jeff Carter. I’m equally impressed with the potential of Tyson Foerster. I think it’s gonna be tough to keep him off this sorry roster next season. |

I gotta say you must watch these games in person. At least once in a while. TV and free online analytics are not going to give you the real story.
Tippet is a budding superstar. He is a flat out stud who backchecks, wins board battles, is a far more explosive a skater than he was just last year and he may have the best pure sniper qualities of anyone in the org. Also, there is a reason why he was drafted so high and maybe it just took a kick in the behind with the trade for him to realize his potential.
To say there is not much more to his game is kinda remarkable. With all due respect, it’s ridiculous.
I would always agree that in general a good center is more valuable than a good winger as a rule of thumb and frost may turn out to be that 2nd line center and pp focal point that this franchise desperately needs, but right now he is not that and Tippett is a first line winger.
You can claim that frost does not have snipers to pass to and you are correct. However, who does Tippett have to pass him the puck? It does not matter as he creates offensive by himself and he forces his will. He just seems to want it more than frost right now. At this time, there is absolutely 0 comparison here.
You have to wonder if some folks are still jaded by who drafted and traded for what player..
Fletcher is fired as he should have been, but that g move was outstanding all things considered. Outstanding.

I don't know about that Courtier guy but Sean Couturier is a two-time Selke finalist (one-time winner), two-time 30+ goal scorer and had no recent injuries of concern before the back issues (after the contract was signed). There was every reason to expect the contract to age similarly to Bergeron and Kopitar.
Any time you ask a player to preemptively forego UFA year(s), it means an overpay in cap/term is going to be involved. - bmeltzer
Cant be serious. This is homerism 101
1) coots did have injury concerns before signing his extension. He had missed time for various reason and had serious knee injury. It can be debated the long term seriousness of those injuries I’ll concede that but to act like there were no concerns is homerism.
11 year in league and expecting his deal to age like kopitar or Bergeron is homerism. Coots isn’t in the same class as those 2. Again I will concede he’s probably a class below but to say it’s should’ve been expected to age like them is crazy talk.
This debate is long over. Anyone on the side of that deal should’ve been signed by philly just looks silly now. And will look more and more silly as time goes on. It really is time to get off that sinking ship. That stance is definitely not a hill to die on
Knee and hip concerns(injuries) before deal. Back now too
How many full season for one reason or another did coots actually play? 3? Out of 12? Something like that. Yeah sound like a pretty good chance with all the data that 2 time 30 goal scorer 2 time nominated 1 time selke winner extension would age like kopitar or Bergy. Laughable |

For the quality of player that Couturier was before his injury. His cap hit of 7.75M is reasonable. Which ranks him 22nd in the league among centers. - MJL
It never was about the money. It was always about the term |

Yeah I certainly didn’t mean that dude serving the royal family, but I can certainly agree that Courtier does not deserve any NHL contract. Lol. As far as the one we all know as Coots, while I see your point, Bill, and absolutely respect your take and knowledge, I really don’t see Couturier as a star up there with the likes of Bergeron and Kopitar. Those other guys have, for many years, been part of a leadership group that excelled in not only individual excellence but we’re able to be catalysts in repeated deep playoff pushes and some Stanley Cup rings. Unfortunately we will never know if SC14 could’ve excelled in such a way since he’s been injured (not his fault) for 2 seasons and now the team is apparently in a full rebuild. - mikeyo27
Stop being nice. There’s no need for it. Don’t sugarcoat it. The flyers need to lambbasted til the cows come home for that deal. And anyone defending it is flat out showing homerism. Time to take the kid gloves off whenever these stances are tried to be pushed.
Coots even in same breath as Bergy is a damn joke. And kopitar for that matter too.

What’s better than a player that puts up 30 goals. (Maybe more) as Tippett could do? Well does frosty provide any of that? I kinda like frosty but highly unlikely you will provide such a great all around game to be better than Tippett putting up 30+ goals if he does |

I think it's 50/50. If his back is healed and strong, absolutely I believe that he can. I keep reading these statements about he's a guy in his 30's playing a grueling sport for many years. Hockey history is filled with guys in their 30's who played a grueling sport who remained high quality players well into their 30's. We'll have to wait and see,
As far as your Ristolainen comment. That doesn't make much sense. I guess I have to explain the difference. Ristolainen's issue is one of hockey sense. He's never been a high-level player and he is what he is. His issue is not a physical injury issue. You don't grasp the difference there? |

The statistical data shows that you're wrong. Frost as of about a week ago, was 2nd on the team in scoring chance involvement, with only Konecny above him. Frost has been one of the best players on the ice a lot this year. Just a few days ago, Tortorella was stating that he needs Tippet to be more consistent. Play less of a one on one game. Look, Tippet had a great game last night. He shot the puck really well. His release, velocity and shot placement was fantastic last night. There seems to be this need for fans to be either on one side or the other. I like both players and I see the real potential in both players.
Since my position is so dumb. I want to hear from you in detail with supporting evidence how teams are concentrating on stopping Tippet more than they are Frost? |

You're wrong. At the time of the signing, Couturier was completely healthy with no injuries of concern. That's a fact. Not homerism. That's all I read. No need to go further. |

I highly doubt the scouting report on the Flyers mentions Frost haha or Tipp for that matter, you have to be a serious player for teams to actually concentrate specifically on stopping you. |

On an offensively challenged team? Yes sir. Put this guy on a line with someone like Marner he would have 35-40 this year. |

I think Tippett needs to prove he can put the puck in the net more consistently before we declare him a sniper or a 40 goal scorer lol. I will say this, on a good hockey team, could you see Tippett or frost playing in a top 6 role? |

Tippet continues to impress. Shows what a little confidence can do along with opportunity. There’s not a lot the kid can’t do. I wish he could get more shots “on” net like he did last night, as his shot is elite. Definitely one of the bright spots this year. |
