I like how Buffalo put their team together.
They brought young talent in either by trade or by drafting. They also brought in some good vets to help lead the young kids.
It still a little early to see if the young goalie they got going tonight is a future #1, but i just like how the team is being built. - WhiskeyMan
tage Thompson being a late bloomer was a nice surprise for them. having a hell of a year.

Aside from whatever rebuild Briere has in mind, part of his plan MUST be to internally and externally build an environment that will make Star free agents want to sign here eventually. A winning team with a chance is obvious, but the Flyers have to put their ducks in a row and make being a Flyer appealing. As to what that constitutes, I’m not sure, but make bo mistake, the players and the agents do. That should be part of Beiere’s many priorities. - mikeyo27
Maybe it's just me, but I find it hard to get star free agents to want to sign here when there's no cap money available to spend.
And it doesn't matter what Briere's priorities are as it's only a matter of time the FO's bias for action kicks in again... those boys just can't seem to control themselves.

The Flyers do have a history of a lot of bad contracts in both price and term. Some teams seem to throw money and term at stars like Makar, MacKinnon, Larkin, McJesus et, while the Flyers throw suck contracts at Hayes, Sanheim, Courtier who are NOT stars. |

Winning, cap space and a willingness to spend money is all that is needed for that. |

Danny's chances for success will mostly depend on how insulated he is from the corporate and alumni meddlers. If the guy they hire as Pres turns out to be "collaborative" then Danny's "rebuild" will be DOA. If the guy is a firewall then Danny might actually have a shot at this. |

“Moving on from Provorov is a no brainer” that’s score article someone posted. It’s been said many times on here, do the right thing and move this guy. Perfect term and cap hit to get back solid assets |

Here is remaining strength of schedule: https://tankathon.com/nhl...maining_schedule_strength
Flyers have the 21st most difficult schedule remaining.
Montreal has the 3rd hardest schedule remaining. Columbus the 6th. San Jose 9th.
Arizona and Chicago are 19 & 20.
Gotta keep not getting points to hope to get out of the 5-9 range.

He’s like they’re Claude Giroux. Taken later in the first. Turning out to be a legit front line franchise guy. |

Weird comparison but understand what you are saying. They got him in the orielly deal. He was struggling in St. Louis.

I don't know about that Courtier guy but Sean Couturier is a two-time Selke finalist (one-time winner), two-time 30+ goal scorer and had no recent injuries of concern before the back issues (after the contract was signed). There was every reason to expect the contract to age similarly to Bergeron and Kopitar.
Any time you ask a player to preemptively forego UFA year(s), it means an overpay in cap/term is going to be involved.

Unless your name is Simmonds. Coots previous contract benefited the team the last couple of years, but was a little overpayment the first two. balanced out. The only difference is Patrice and Anze both brought a cup to their cities (more than once). but understand what you are saying.

Bill, question. picking 5-7. i know it will be determined by who may be selected.
but do you see them taking the risk on Michkov. or one that has less mistery like W. Smith. or who intrigues you? such a slow day
of course would love to get any of the top 3 guys but without the lottery won't happen. |

For the quality of player that Couturier was before his injury. His cap hit of 7.75M is reasonable. Which ranks him 22nd in the league among centers. |

If it were my call and he was on the board, I'd swing for the fences on Michkov. If that means waiting four years for him to come over and he debuts at age 22, so be it. There is franchise player upside. He is the most naturally dynamic offensive player in the draft after Bedard (also, neither Fantilli nor Carlsson will be around by the 5-7 range).

I should have elaborated but I like your example best. My point was, some of the best finds don’t have to come from a first or second overall pick. |
