McDavid is the key to Oilers PP success, not Barrie.

A win tonight against a tough Stars team would give them a great confidence boost towards a potential playoff matchup. Oil need to come out firing on all cylinders.

Hi Sean!

Are you betting on the Oil to come out of the West this year?

Just wanted to pop in here and offer my condolences to anyone impacted (directly or indirectly) by the tragic death of the 2 Edmonton Police Officers who were senselessly killed while just trying to do their job.

Terrible and so unnecessary.

As in first in the West? Right now don’t see it. Not enough runway left to make up the difference. Some good teams above them would need to falter in addition to the Oil going on a run

Yeah, yeah…you guys talked at great length about how trash Barrie was but now that he’s gone you do a 360 and talk about how was the key to this, integral to that blah, blah, blah. Grow up.

Your obsession against Barrie is very strange.

For the vast majority of barrie's career I thought he was junk. But under Woodcroft he was "good" relatively speaking defensively and obviously very good on the PP.

I think the reason we are not seeing much if any down turn on the PP is because Bouchard is also legitimately THAT GOOD as well. Being a great passer is basically Bouchards calling card and makes him a perfect replacement on the PP for Barrie. His shot is also clearly better so in theory we "could" actually see the PP eventually get even better with him on it over Barrie.

Good call on Foegele he is a player that through all of last year and some of this year just was no where near worth his cap hit and I think he is finally finding his groove.

Yama... also good call. Pretty sure he lost his man for the GA last night and again missed on a couple great scoring opportunities.

I got to think for cap management one of Yama or Foegele is gone this offseason.

Although Barrie was okay at participating in one of the best powerplays EVER (McDavid, Draisaitl, Nuge, Hyman, Kane, etc.) he is one of THE worst defensive players I have ever seen. 5v5 with Barrie on the ice almost always means a goal against. If not a goal against, then you can bet that it will be a shift spent almost entirely in the defensive zone.

Being "okay" on the powerplay and being so terrible on defense means that Barrie is not only not missed, I think the team is better without him (even if we just sat him out and didn't receive anything back, he's that bad in his own zone).

Tyson Barrie leads all defenseman in powerplay points he wasn't just good this year. He also only allowed 36 5v5 goals against for the Oilers which was a career low 2.4 ga/60 the same as Nurse and better than Morgan Reilly's. This isn't the same Barrie that allowed 70 5v5 goals against in Toronto he has improved alot this year.

Has anyone noticed the Oilers have the second highest Regulation Wins in the NHL? That's a good thing.

More than that, it's a good indicator of what kind of playoff team this is. As there is no 3v3 or SO in the playoffs.

True. Even if games go to OT in playoffs, it's 5 vs 5 which is how they're winning a lot of their games.

With Skinner playing well and the pickup of Eckholm I'm starting to have some real confidence this team can make a deep playoff run. Not to mention Kane back and healthy. He's the type of player built for the playoffs.

I've probably given up on explaining this...people don't seem to understand. I love Draisaitl's offense, and I really like HIM as a person/player/teammate/etc. My whole point was that a championship team doesn't need TWO mostly offense guys like that down the middle...especially when there are glaring holes in other parts of the roster. Especially when we have Nuge to fill that 2c role. Draisaitl's poor defensive game is not a secret anymore (even though I've been saying this for quite some time), and a winning team needs to be much tighter defensively.

If McDavid played like Crosby...keep Draisaitl 100%

If there is no "patsy" to significantly overpay for Draisaitl right after he won the Hart (he won't win it ever again)....keep Draisaitl 100%.

I would not trade Draisaitl straight up for either of Marner or Matthews. I think he's better all around and it does not address the 200ft player argument.

I WOULD entertain a team's overpayment offer for championship type players for Draisaitl (off the top of my head...Sergachev, Point, Killorn, and a prospect) (I thought about this for 15seconds just to give an example)

Lastly, moving Draisaitl to the wing and giving the 2c job to someone else is also a good decision.

I think my new "target" is Nurse, way too much money tied into a guy that's really not putting in the effort. Similarly, if suddenly Nurse starts putting up huge points, while still not holding the fort defensively, I'd shop him around too. (asset management, something the Oilers have NEVER done, it's always waiting too long and then it's a fire sale).
