At least they are changing things up and targeting younger guys not vets. More speed / size. Trying to be hopeful lol - canucksfan1944
"At least they are changing things up". Sounds more like the logic of a bored fan than a logical one.
This team has a big hole down the middle after trading Bo. Which assets are going to address that? By trading away a top end center and 2 high picks they created two holes to fill one. The hole in the middle and pissing away the chance to restock the prospect pool... and it's only a middle pairing RD who will be due for a significant raise in a year. That is if he doesn't have a step back season which would be a disaster. Then there are the risks that the Islanders pick is top 15 or an unprotected lotto pick in the end...

People keep going on about Miller being traded this deadline. Pay attention, they don't trade away 2 high picks for a Dman just to leave this team with one center. They are moving picks to make the play offs next season. That much is obvious... - boonerbuck
They are at least going in the direction of 2yrs to be a PO team. JR put it at 2 & plenty more time to keep tinkering etc. |

JT Miller appears to be playing tonight. Is this a demonstration of showcasing one last time before tomorrow? Anyone know which teams scouts are in the building tonight?
Hopefully Boeser has a great game and Minny takes him with them! - Bakwas
Frank Seravalli
More interesting in #NHL's memo about LTIR usage related to deadline is what it does NOT address: A team's ability to use space to acquire players, then activate that injured player in the playoffs.
Speculation was Miller was going to be injured till playoffs then magically healed. |

I look at it a bit differently, I do not believe for a minute this is dealing from a place of desperation, that is a fan/media driven statement. They make these moves when the opportunity presents itself.
There is this media/fan driven concept that there is a right time to make team improving moves when media/fans assign the timeframe.
This season is shot, there is nothing wrong with improving on personnel when those guys are available. When the next season starts they have the defenseman they wanted already accustomed to coaches, systems, teammates.
There are other ways to look at how and why transactions are thought out. - Makita
The timing or opportunity to get any top 4 RHD rarely presents itself. Fans act like there is always a trade for 1 whenever team wants one. Forcing something is costly in cap &/or assets. |

Hearing they’re trading for big Logan out of Winnipeg. I know cause my uncle works close to someone in the Jets management - manvanfan

There is always a price for everyone. Usually it's above fair if one team is more desperate than the other.
It's shown over the years for Van. |

It's a pretty legit question. Think it through from Detroit's perspective on why they make that trade. Two teams were involved. - manvanfan
Wings are ascending but tbh not close to a PO team. C isn’t a strength & in goal is weak. Their division is a beast & Stevie Y knows it. |

This might have something to do with why management is still making win-now moves. You have to convince this guy to stay. $14 mil market value if he keeps going the way he is.
 - NorthNuck
14 Mill Trade him... he isn't McDavid or Mackinnon... something more along the lines of Pasta should be about right.

I disagree with bolded, and implying Hronek would be available for a 2nd in the summer is completely wishful pie in the sky thinking.
Yes there is a chance they could draft an NHL caliber defenseman, but there is also they don't.
Anyway enough from me, I am happy to welcome Hronek to the team, today - Makita
I'm not saying he would or could be available for a second – I'm just using that as a hypothetical to illustrate that it's not the person people are upset with, it's the cost in the situation.
They have two chances to draft an NHL player in a very deep draft. The price is very very steep, and the context doesn't make much sense. Hell, if they waited until next week to trade for him, I wonder if the price would have been less pressurized by the TDL. (Can make trades after the TDL, the acquired player just can't play in the playoffs, which isn't an issue for the Canucks..) |

Trading Miller makes them a playoff team in 2 seasons? Do people expect this management to come up with a better C to fill the holes down the middle by trading both Miller and Horvat? Not bloody likely. If they are trading Miller it's longer than 2 seasons and makes yesterday's trade a complete (frank) around...
Miller is not getting traded. They chose him over Horvat and invested long term. He clearly is a major part of their plan moving forward. If they kept their picks and made other moves acquiring more picks and prospects, I'd logically think they changed their mind on Miller but they went the other way and traded away 2 of their 3 high picks in this very strong draft. |

Perhaps....or he has a great season and if we can't afford him we flip him. And maybe the Islanders go on a run this year and it's 24th overall.
Who knows....
Adding a 25 year old RHD who is a top 4 and reasonable for next year + an RFA isn't a BAD move. Was I excited about the pick? Yes. But we will see.

They could have at least sorted out the lack of cap space and 40 wingers first. Then seen closer where the picks would land, teams outside the playoffs can make trades. What's could have been available at the draft if it got that far.
Maybe the deal goes away and another deal presents itself, that the price wouldn't be so steep. |

Top 4 blah blah blah. He is a middle pairing. So he's as much a bottom 4 as atop 4... reality. |

I mean he obviously isn't going to make 14 mil. He will likely land in the 11-12 range I would think. My point was more that if you want him to sign for 8 years you need proof that things are going to get better and maybe Hronek is part of that. |

Miller is staying.
Very strong draft? It has high end F’s up top then the depth follows. None are D that are considered gems but still sone very interesting ones out there. They will take 4-5yrs min to get there. That said it’ll come down to luck on who will come outta the pack. Most of them are tweeners. I like Simashev for his size & D & mean. |

I truly believe you don’t see much of any Wings games. He’s easily top 4 & more like a 3D at worst. Cannon from the point skates real well & very good on breakouts. We suck on that. PK’s. |

All this smack about addressing the cap coming out of the front office. They better have a solid plan ahead because it's worse now than when they took over and I'm still hearing people blaming past management for it.
Sign Boeser to 6.65 when in cap trouble and he is trending downward... then realize he's continuing to trend downward. Change gears and fail to find a trade partner and have to turn to his agent to dig them out of the situation they put themselves in...
These guys are lost.... |

Leave the cap til the offseason. Still this TDL to go as well. LTIR space this year is still to be used. |
