Thanks Mike.

Would be nice to add a pick for McDonough if he decides he doesn't want to sign. Seen a couple guys go for 3rd rounders.

Would be nice if Canucks could acquire a 5th and 7th round pick and a 2nd in 24 back.

More picks in this draft and next would go a long ways to creating sustained success and not one off years like when they traded for JT Miller.

Canuck management chasing what's not there, over and over again.

Much much more shuffling will need to be done.

Hoglander with a 3 point night, led Abbotsford to victory last night.

The #GoJetsGo are looking around for a top-3 defenceman with term. I'm told Winnipeg was in on Jakob Chychrun but dropped out Wednesday morning. Philly's willing to listen on LD Provorov/Sanheim; could be on their radar.

Filip Hronek is a good player. Zero doubt.

But why is a #Canucks team that’s 27th in the NHL, capped out and in possession of a weak prospect pool giving up a first and second-round pick for win-now help?

It just doesn't make sense

This trade will help the Canucks attempt a retool that can get them back into the playoffs sooner rather than later, but the path to building an eventual actual Cup contender looks highly improbable with this direction.

Shayna Goldman: Dear Patrik Allvin, maybe don’t pick up the phone next time Steve Yzerman calls? Or do, because we could all use a laugh once in a while.

Canucks: D
Red Wings: A

Sean Gentille:This is a move you make when you’re close, not 27th in the league. It’d be shocking if it weren’t so typical for the Canucks. They’re not going to rebuild. Ever. Not on purpose, at least. They’ve paid the price for it before, and they’re about to do it again. Whatever improvements Hronek brings aren’t going to be enough to justify the price. Sure, they needed a right-shot D. They need a lot more, though. Too much to add via trade, in fact.

Two days ago, Boston Pres Cam Neely said: “We still have some time to maybe tinker. We’ll look at that.” Yup, they did.

To #NHLBruins
- LW Tyler Bertuzzi

To #LGRW
- 2024 conditional 1st RD pick
- 2025 4th RD pick

Too boot

Since deciding to figure out the cap "next summer" the Canucks have acquired $19mil in cap commitments and moved off $14.5mil

They've acquired a conditional 1st, a 3rd and a 4th.

They've traded the conditional 1st, two 2nds, a 5th and a 7th

They're over next years' cap limit

This is not even close to what I would call a re-tool. It looks like win now still.

Idiocy. What the F are they doing. It's so damn clear it's the owner saying fix it win now.

If you think the Canucks should go scorched earth rebuild (i.e. AZ) then you should be trading Hughes, Demko and EP. None of them are going to stick around for a 5 year rebuild. Yet very few fans want to do that. Instead they want to waste 5 years of QH & EP's prime rebuilding.

If you don't want to trade those guys then you need to surround them with more talent especially on the blue line. A 25 year old RHD is always going to expensive and Hronek at least seems to be a guy trending in the right direction. Anyone you draft in the teens is at least 3 or 4 years away and a crapshoot as to whether they develop into what Hronek is now.

TLDR: If you want to trade EP/QH this is a terrible move to trade futures for Hronek, if you want to build around the young stars it is a smart move. Hoarding draft picks and doing a 5 year rebuild while watching your "young stars" age out is the worst idea.

Anyone saying they don't know why the Hronek trade was made is lying.

Pettersson is a top 10 forward in the league this year, would honestly be in Selke conversation if the team were faring better. He also has the highest ESP/60 in the league, Kuzmenko is 10th in the league in that category as well. Hughes is 6th in the league in assists, and his advanced stats say he is a top 10 Dman this year.

For better or for worse, it has been decided by ownership and management that these guys are in their prime, and the time to push is now, not 2 or 3 years from now.

I won't get in what they paid for Hronek. He does however bring some support to QH, someone he can grow with (no pun intended).

Clearly this team doesn't value 1st or 2nd round picks for some reason which explains the lack of depth in the system. Yet they keep on going down the rabbit hole.

They have some cap space/options to add picks/prospects by Friday but I get the feeling they're gearing up for a late playoff push.

Happy to be wrong.

Quinn Hughes is 4th for NHL D in WAR with 2.8.

Filip Hronek is 5th for NHL D in WAR with 2.6.

With Elias Pettersson (3.4) & Andrei Kuzmenko (2.4), that makes 4 of the top 20 players in the NHL this season.

On the surface, I obviously hate it as I want a scorched earth rebuild. However. This was never in their plans, so if they’re going to surround Pettersson and Hughes with talent, so they have a competitive team in the next few years, then I don’t hate it. Hopefully there’s more moves to come but you’ve got to start somewhere in fixing that defense.

Florida Panthers Acquire:

Jared McCann · $894,167
2016 2nd round pick (VAN - #33 - Rasmus Asplund)
2016 4th round pick (VAN - #94 - Jonathan Ang)

Vancouver Canucks Acquire:

Erik Gudbranson · $3,500,000
2016 5th round pick (NYI - #140 - Cole Candella)

After this trade the Canucks still picked top 10 for two more seasons.

Sure, great. Again this does nothing to improve the prospect pipeline! They're not a playoff team, the timing of this deal is questionable. Stevie Y schooled JR & PA imo.

The hand is dealt, one would think they would try to fill that gap between 1st & 3rd for this draft. There were 9 D taken last year in the 2nd round, start filling the prospect pool ffs.

This move kinda reminds me of the trade for JT Miller. Trading a first round pick in the 14-20 range for immediate helps. That didn’t work out so well either.

Ya know, I used to get upset at these types of moves but now I’m pretty much indifferent. I don’t really care anymore because they’re gonna do what they’re gonna do regardless of what people on the outside, looking in think. Apathy at its finest.
