Canucks might be able to get back into the late 2nd round with a 3rd and 4th round. Probably wouldn't be worth it though |

A lot of discussion about buying out OEL but does it make sense? What are we doing with the cap space this year? Also going to be carrying that hit into the next decade!
Maybe you hope OEL can come back and be closer to last year's player while not being asked to do as much as he had and you buy him out next year or try and squeeze out two more year.
Worries me to carry that cap hit for so long when the team is still going to suck anyhow. |

Really like how the Bruins are loading up for a Cup run.
Gotta love how some teams know when it is time to go all in, and also hilarious to see teams go all in, when they are trash.

Well I don't necessarily think we are going to suck just the biggest cap benefit is the first year of a buyout generally and I don't know what we would use it for next year? Cap savings are lower in future years so if you think we are two years from having a decent team best to have the most cap savings for then and wait a year on the buyout for OEL.
If you like the AZ model then trade EP, QH and Demko. If you think those guys are worth building around then the Hronek trade does make sense. I like the idea of a good upside 25 yo RHD. This is a lot different than trading for a washed up 30 yo OEL IMO.

OEL buyout seems to be driven by fans. No idea if mgmt is considering it, just curious why fans thinks it makes sense besides the fact that OEL is terribly overpaid. |

The OEL trade is the worst in a legacy of mistakes and (frank) ups by Benning. That contract is actively impeding the team from improving year over year. - NorthNuck
It is a close second to Loui Eriksson, sorry to bring it up guys but if we're ranking bad benning moves...

2 years away from having a decent team. Hronek is then 28. Going to cost much more. Behind him on right side D is Bear, If he is re-signed? Going to need to draft a RHD, which takes time and usually higher draft picks or sign one in free agency with the zero cap space.
Maybe once they buy out OEL they have enough cap space to sign a 3m 3rd pairing guy to play 2nd pairing minutes.
Teams still needs cheap centers that out perform their contracts either in free agency or drafting. So need to draft a center and a D still with only 1 pick. |

They are currently over the cap next season. Im thinking theres lots of moves to make but buying out OEL is certainly one of them. |

You must have missed the past convos on this. A few think it's possible/reasonable to buy him out now. I don't think they should for a couple more seasons – I don't see the sense in it, but that was with the idea they'd suck for another season or two before pushing more chips in.
But, judging off what management has said about buyouts, their trade for Hronek, and the fact they don't seem too patient.. IMO it's more likely than before the trade that they'd buy OEL this summer for cap savings moving forward. |

I know but after next season 26, then season after 27. When those two years have gone by and the team might be competitive again as management have mentioned, he would be 28. |

Canucks been doing that for a while now. It's lead to to be a bottom 5 team over the last decade multiple times |

Coyotes are getting a 6th round pick with Jakub Voracek from the Blue Jackets to take on that deal, as
@Aportzline
states. Gives AZ some flexibility cap floor wise for other potential moves here, and takes some $ off CBJ's hands. |

Canucks usually overpay for players in their prime, and offload them when they're too old and expensive. Completely different |
