I did look over (those old blogs were 50+ pages) our old Augello threads from Dec 1 - 3. AA was still a Nylander fan then. I think there was a lot of catharsis in that whole thing - from him holding out and a lot of people feeling betrayed, to him signing and our expectations rocketing, to him underperforming in that first year, and ultimately for some people just bottoming out on him. A lot of others wanted to preach patience - but it is hard with Nylander, because as well as he is playing at the moment, he is still very streaky, and when a streaky player whose principal contribution is scoring goes cold, he's just not offering much of anything.

But if you go back and read through, most everyone in the Leaf thread was pretty positive about it. The more entertaining elements were that we were all sure the cap would be $84m in the next year, and $100m within 5 years - it was $79.5 at the time, afterall. Then escrow issues f'd that up for 2 years, COVID really f'd it up for 2 more years, and here we are - at $82.5m.

Of course they have enough $ to sign Willie and Matthews. $21M available from Engvall, Kerfoot, Brodie, Muzzin and Murray. Replacements needed and guys will need raises but if those two are a priority, the $ is there. (Marlies, Knies, etc can take up some slack)
