From last thread

Of course they have enough $ to sign Willie and Matthews. $21M available from Engvall, Kerfoot, Brodie, Muzzin and Murray. Replacements needed and guys will need raises but if those two are a priority, the $ is there. (Marlies, Knies, etc can take up some slack)

Also, re Cush I don’t think Willie is a better player than Marner right now. He’s hawter but Mitch is still more skilled and does more all round.

Because I am a total piece of smug poop, I decided to revisit Ek's blog from December 1st, 2018, after the Leafs "caved" and we signed Willy to a $6.9M cap hit.

Here's Ek's blog:

https://www.hockeybuzz.com/blog.php?post_id=96306

Per Darren Dreger...Nylander has signed with two minutes to spare...so many side stories here and 6 years makes him VERY move-able...I don't see everyone being all happy happy joy joy....This was NOT smooth...Lots of hurt feelings and side stories...How long he stays in Toronto still very hazy....

Some gold from other fan bases in those comments...

The Nylander contract is the start of the end for Dubas. He completely caved at the last moment giving Nylander 7.5 for 6 years. This screws the Leafs for Marner and Matthews next year. Marner agent will take Mitch and his top 5 point leader status in the league to a contract of 12 Million plus knowing Dubas will cave, and Matthews will see an offer sheet for 14 Million per. Dubas should have let Nylander sit out the year, now the Leafs will probably lose Marner or Matthew as they can’t have 3 players in excess of 11 Million. Kapanen’s agent will probably also be looking for 6 million, he too may be gone. So much for long term Leaf success. Keeping a team together is no longer possible in a cap system. Maybe letting Matthews go for 4 first rounds might be the better way to go that matching a 14 Million per season deal.

Some bold predictions

See:

Reinhart, Sam

Botterill, Jason

Reinhart and Nylander's numbers are almost identical, too.

I'd rather not have that large-headed, entitled wanker and I'm not even a fan of Reinhart. I doubt Nylander ever gets past 70 points.

1967 TML’s Raisin Pudding

This is a very old, rustic desert. If you don’t like sweet, move along.

Sauce
3/4 cup brown sugar
2.5 cups water
1/4 cup butter

Batter
1/4 cup melted butter
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 cup all purpose flour
Pinch of salt
2 teaspoons baking powder
3/4 cup raisins ( wife uses half sultana and half golden which are tart)

Preheat oven to 350F
Combine all sauce ingredients in a sauce pan. Heat until sugar dissolves and butter melts. Pour into a large-ish casserole dish.
In a bowl, combine butter, brown sugar, milk and vanilla. Then add flour and baking powder. Beat well. Then stir in raisins.
Spoon batter onto the sauce (rustic lumps). It looks weird, but trust me.
Bake for 40 minutes.
Serve warm and make sure you scoop lots of the magic sauce that has been created with each portion. Add whipped cream or ice cream if you like.

I predict Zezel will eat the entire thing in one sitting.

okay I'm done now... I like this one because it includes Mark Hunter

Listen, it’s not rocket science to see that Kyle craved, first off 7 million for your 6th best player on the wing? Second, trade him and get an anchor on your back end that would help you make a playoff run. Because at your current state, mr Andersson is going to be bagged again like the last couple years.(over played). Third, maybe they should have thought just a weee bit that this was all going to come to a head becuase next year you guys are screwed. Reason being (Tavares signing.) The inexperience of dumbass has lost this team one of there young studs. mark hunter would have had all the young buds under contract by now. Tavares could have flown in with his little sissy blanket and scooped up the scraps. God love the shanaplan lol

Some pretty good comments.

Ross77: Leafs totally cave. Good for Nylander, proved you can hold out and get exactly what you want. 25 million signing bonus and 7.5 per year

RedRevenge: I suggested a solution to your problem (and future problems). Signing Nylander to 7 million is a loss since they originally offered him 6x6. Nylander won the deal.

My statement still stands. Cap Hell awaits...

Komisaurus Rex: Holy poop 6.9 million??

Kiss Marner and Glasshews goodbye and thanks Snakevares!

classic321: Didn't he want a little over 7.

And he got 7

Sounds like a win for nylander, and dubas caved right before the deadline.

Fun one from Kayakjack: Brian Burke is on Hockey Night in Canada criticizing the hell out of the Leafs for a 6.9M cap hit on Nylander because the Leafs are not a cup contender. Then..he revealed his true pettiness when he questioned whether or not you put Nylander ahead of Gardiner...his acquisition. The same 30 year old Gardiner still learning how to play D. Nylander....is 22. Are Brian Burke and Donald Trump related?

More from our special friend Komi: You have to tip your cap to the Nylander camp, they stood their ground and got the huge pay day they were looking for. Dubas knows he couldnt let the deadline hit, this was a sheer panic move and will cripple him in next years signings. As I said this guy and the media paint him as a genius, its going to be fun watching this blow up in all their faces

Good for Willy Knee, get that money!

I love how they are absolute statements. Yet if pushed on it would find a way to justify their view, move goal posts or back track.

Frank Seravalli on SN590 says the Leafs have had their eye on Jake McCabe for a while now.

The price if he's acquired at $4M AAV is in the second-round pick range plus a B-level prospect.

The price if he's acquired at $2M AAV is in the first-round pick range.

I am all over that 2nd one. Big fan of adding cheap contracts that are still around when Willy and AM need to be signed.

Speaking old friends, it’s nice to see a time when Komi could actually write in complete sentences. He seems to be reduced to copying and pasting QAnon streams. And Burke is now saying that putting Marner on the PK is a terrible idea.
