It was the 11th pick that they traded to Arizona. If the Flyers had kept that 11th pick, then they would not have had the 14th pick. It's impossible to pass on a player twice if you only make one selection in that draft before Caufield was selected. The Flyers only had an opportunity to select one player. Now if they had drafted two players before Caufield was selected. Then you could say they passed on him twice. The Flyers passed on him once, not twice. It does remain to be seen if York has more to offer than that. Hence the question. If York turns out to be a really good NHL defenseman, would that still be a major blunder?
- MJL
Matter of semantics as far as whether they passed on him twice. I say yeah and you say nah. As of this writing it remains a major blunder. No one knows what the future holds, but unless York becomes a true top notch defender it will always be a major blunder in my eyes. Again, no one knows how things play out. I think Caufield becomes a perennial 50 goal guy if he can stay healthy, so York better become much more than a steady defender.

It's not semantics. You can't pass on a player if you don't have a pick. One pick= one player. It's not a major blunder. It's unknown as of this writing.

How many perennial 50 goal players are there in the NHL? Go back 10 years and see how many players that can be called a perennial 50 goal scorer. There's one, Alex Ovechkin. There's a few more players with the talent in MatthewsMc David, Draisaitl and Pasternak. Speaking of premature. It's incredibly premature to label Caulfield a perennial 50 goal scorer.

Then why did you ask me the question? Kind of cracks me up that you ask me my opinion and then you tell me I'm wrong. If you already have all the answers why did you bother asking? I did NOT label Caufield a perennial 50 goal scorer. I said I think he will become one which indicates that I think he has the potential to become one. Let's just say I feel that Caufield will have a bigger impact on his team than York will have on the Flyers.

Can we hit 30 goals first? A guy that small, needs to prove he can play a full season in this league. Talented player, has to stay on the ice

Dude, are you serial?? He had 26 goals halfway through the season. Perhaps math isn't your strong suit, but try to think a bit before you go on some agenda filled tangent.

I guess the word potential isn't in your vocabulary either? I did NOT label him anything. I said IMO he will become a perennial 50 goal scorer in the league. If you find a reason that he will not become that then by all means take your best shot.

Dude, has he ever hit 30 goals? He’s 5’7, his health will be a huge question mark until proven otherwise, what’s so hard to comprehend?

Oh, I understand it perfectly. Cause he has now had one shoulder injury he is now labeled by you as injury prone. He played in the playoffs a couple years back and excelled. Don't think his physicality was an issue at all. Yes, perhaps he will have to bulk up some a la Jack Hughes, but smaller guys can play in today's NHL without all the clutching and grabbing.

I asked you the question to lead the conversation towards the facts. To prove that calling passing on Caulfield for York is not anywhere near at this point something that can be called a major blunder. I then provided you the reality of what it takes to be a perennial 50 goal scorer and how often that happens in this league.

Again, your last statement is unknown.

Konency has 24 goals right now as age 25. Does this mean Konency is gonna score 50? I mean, he is still playing…
