Just curious why you think this wasn't the move needed? - kindlyrick
I honestly need to think about it more but, Horvat is a center. We needed a wing. Perhaps this means they shift Barzy? Regardless we are a team extremely light on scoring talent at the wing position and now gave up our best prospect at that position, a high pick and while I don't like Beau...another young forward. All of this for a guy who topped 25g 3x and 30 2x. He's a soon to be UFA...no ext reported in place.

If they move Barzal to his wing, and extend him, do you like the trade? - kindlyrick
Still do not know if I like this move. If I thought Bo was the last piece of the puzzle, I'd love this move. Islanders still need more and I'm not sure what is even left to trade if Lou is really going for it now.

So who do you guys want traded next? When he was here I got a Strome jersey and he got traded. Last Christmas my wife took the jersey to the team store and had Beauvillier's name put on it. I figure whoever gets #18 now is the next to go. |

That would very much depend on the price.
He's probably going to get paid like a 1C for a one year jump in his shooting percentage and ultimately revert back to a 60pt forward. Extremely high chance they'd be signing a more expensive, slightly younger Brock Nelson |

This is a shock for sure Cpt. When I saw this at first, I thought is it April fools? This does not seem to fit the teams biggest positional need. Bo should help for sure. It's just a matter if it makes enough sense over the long haul. - ses111
We have a bunch of over the hill players that seem to have a hard time making it through the grind of a season. We just took on a player that will be past his prime in a couple of years. I’m trying to find something positive about this but I think it’s an at best strange trade that prolongs the inevitable and digs that hole deeper. |

Him being a center, not signed(maybe he will be who knows), I liked raty, our first this year, can’t agree with you there on that one. Like you said the kid is going to look to get paid. He’s not what we need imo. This team shouldn’t be trading prospects and picks for anything. Maybe we’ve been watching different teams for the last year and a half. - Cptmjl
I liked Raty too and he might be a good player
I think we'll see either Barzal or Nelson move to wing. The team needs scoring and Horvat is 8th in the league in goals, so I don't know if I'd say "he's not what we need".
I don't disagree that they shouldn't be trading picks and prospects, especially good/high ones. |

That’s the most insane part. If that doesn’t change in the next few days this becomes even dumber. I say this not knowing if I want horvat for the next 8 years at around 9 million per |

I'm also trying to judge this move fairly. I have concerns with this move. I know we have Sorokin and Bo can certainly help and we still have a chance at the playoffs. I still do not see this team capable of going on a long playoff run even with this move and still with a full NHL schedule.

In its simplest form the isles got a legitimate 1C, which they really havent had since 91 walked. Its a ballsy move, but for pure talent, Horvat is a beast, and having a monster year. For a team who's PP has been anemic for years, it addresses that need. If we're being honest, Barzal hasnt really excelled as the 1C. |

"Legitimate 1C" is a big stretch for Horvat. He's having a monster season in a contract year and has only ever topped 60pts once. |

I’m not disputing that. I’m not saying he’s a bad player. I just don’t get the trade. It’s makes zero sense. BUT he’s in his prime in his contract year it’s almost expected he have a monster season. Generally not the best time to take on a player and he’s not even signed |

As a frame of reference, Josh Bailey also had a big season that was a statistical outlier when he was 28 |

8th in the league in goals......on a crap team. Im not saying he's bringing the cup here, but he's literally a better center than anyone on this team and its not close. I also think for a PP that was 3rd from the bottom and has consistently been an issue is now improved. I guess it all depends on an extension and its term. But the isles are a better team today then yesterday is really my point. |

I hear ya, i just dont think Lou Lam is the kind of inexperienced GM that trades a first for a 2 month Vanek stay. I feel like Lou maybe has a handshake on an extension. I could be 100% wrong, but he doesnt strike me as a GM that makes that kinda rookie move. I guess we shall see. |

It's one year of this kind of production, that's it. Statistical outlier seasons at his age are rarely replicated on a consistent basis.
You're aboslutely right they're a better team today then they were yesterday, but I'm not sure how much better and if the juice is going to be worth the squeeze in the long-term. Even if they turn it around and make the playoffs, it'll probably be as a wildcard team and they'll draw either Boston or Carolina...two teams they match up terribly against |

Agreed on all fronts. Maybe Lou isn't done? Again, i'm happy to see him finally replace Tavares.....it only took 3 years. |

That’s the only reason you make this trade. You’re right he’s not bringing the cup here. That’s one of the other reasons I don’t like the trade. |
