You just wanted to pull this one out. Not that it isn't warranted, but Bailey isn't the problem with this team. - JimmyP
Not 'the'...'a' problem. There are multiple players that fit the category but he is definitely exhibit A when it comes to the type of changes that need to happen
I found everyone. Had to do some searching since this thread is no longer on main. I thought HockeyBuzz dropped the Isles altogether since Shelley has not provided a new blog in weeks.

Yep. He’s certainly part of it. He needs to be bought out next season he is another level bad. - Cptmjl
I disagree. A buyout prolongs the pain. Next season is his last under contract. Better to get rid of his cap hit next season when the Isles are rebuilding anyway. If the Isles are sellers at the trade deadline this season, they shouldn't need the cap space next season.

Disagree. Hypothetically Mayfield, Varlamov, maybe Beauvillier (prob not bcs he has another year), Parise will be gone at the TDL. You’re looking at close to 7 million coming off the books(I doubt anyone takes Beau). Depending on what the plan is for next year will decided whether it makes sense to buy him out. Either way we would shed 2.5 million whether it’s to take on another player or to take on dead salary for picks/prospects if we don’t plan on doing a quick offseason retool. I can’t find a reason to have him in the lineup at this point no matter what our plan is for next season in all honesty other then loyalty by Lou. Bottom line is we won’t be close to the floor so it literally makes zero sense to keep him.
His hit 24/25 is 1.6 it would give us an opportunity to bury the worthless plug Johnston in the minors
Give us more room to either;
A. Acquire someone if lameriello plans on doing a reset.
B. Acquire picks/prospects for cap dumps if we’re doing a tear down.
New York Islanders
On “The Jeff Marek Show” earlier this week, Elliotte Friedman linked the Islanders to Chychrun. This is an interesting one because the defender would be a fit on Long Island to round out the top four around Adam Pelech, Ryan Pulock and righty Noah Dobson.
Could the Islanders afford this and should they? At a certain point, the team has to be realistic about their chances this year. If management feels they aren’t bound for the playoffs, or the long run, maybe it’s best they start recouping assets by trading the likes of Scott Mayfield and Semyon Varlamov who are on expiring contracts. Even Anthony Beauvillier could be on the move if management doesn’t think he’s a part of the answer long-term (whether it’s to Arizona, or elsewhere). That would bring back assets management could flip to add Chychrun, who would better this team’s chances down the line. The Islanders need offense, and he’d be a source of it from the blue line. So management should consider him, but seeing as that’s the weakness they’ve been dealing with for some time, it shouldn’t be their top priority, either.
This team needs a high-end winger first and foremost, and being in the Chychrun race can’t preclude them from that. If somehow this team could swing both, then by all means. But there’s bigger fish to fry first, and this isn’t the most creative front office to make it happen. That’s why it’s worth asking whether management will make any productive moves at all before getting into the specifics of Chychrun or a forward.

Didn't they just trade their first-round pick a few months ago at the draft to "round out the top-four?" I feel like trading for Chychrun would be an admission of sorts that Romanov is basically not much better than a solid bottom-pair d-man (which may be true...he's been OK, but not great), which makes trading a first rounder for him look kind of

Romanov is still only 23, he's one day older than Dobson. They have awhile to go before they know what he really is.
I don't know about adding Chychrun. He bounced back after a down year last year but he's injury-prone and the price ARI wants for him is honestly more than he's worth. He'd be a good addition to the back-end but I think they should be focusing their efforts elsewhere.

I say this honestly not watching Arizona play pretty much ever besides when we play them but is Chychrun really that wonderful? He looks decent offensively but nothing that makes me think two firsts and a great prospect. He had one good season two years ago where maybe you could make an argument for his value but other then that there’s nothing that jumps out to me that we need this guy now. I’m also taking into consideration he’s playing on the coyotes. I know chiefs has disagreed with me on this in the past but to me the juice doesn’t look worth the squeeze.

I agree that there's no reason to play Bailey next season other than to get another high draft pick in the 2024 draft. I see the rebuild taking a couple of years. So I am willing to absorb the pain of watching Bailey play the rest of this season as well as next season. But then the following season we are completely free of him and his cap hit.
Johnston is another subject. I don't care what they do with him. The Rangers traded Reaves and got a 5th round pick for him..........and started playing better! Maybe we can get a late round pick for Johnston.

You may think that, but trading assets for another d-man who would undoubtedly be in the top four would show the organization has Romanov ticketed for the bottom pair. Unless we think one of Pulock or Pelech was given a roughly $6m/yr extension to be a bottom-pair d-man.

My biggest concern is his injuries. But regarding his offense...he's on pace for 51pts in 66gp this year
I don't have a super-strong opinion on him because, like you, I don't watch the Coyotes much. But the offense is back for sure.
