I've been a fan of Nelson for a long time...I used to stream Bridgeport games back when he played there and he may have been the only accurate prediction I've ever made in my life as far as which prospect will make the team and contribute in the NHL

As for streakiness, I'm not sure there are too many players that are always on...if they were always on, they'd all have like 70 goals per season. But, yeah, Nelson's probably been streakier than most throughout his career, although I feel like he's leveled that out somewhat in recent seasons. He's a solid player. I'd be happy if the Isles kept him.

But, if they really are going to either tear it all down or even do a less drastic retooling, you have to trade older players that still have value. Nelson has a pretty hefty cap hit, but I don't think he's overpaid for what he contributes, so he might have value. I don't know how many other of the over-30 vets would have that kind of value. Lee makes more, has a longer contract, and has a full NTC this year. Palmieri makes less but hasn't performed well at all and he also has a full NTC. Pageau probably has too many years left on his contract.

I mean, we're saying "tear it down," but that might not be so easy to do!

Nelson is a nice player, but Garth seemed to draft the same type of passive player. We've seen this with the Islanders not responding to their own teammates getting run.

It's going to be very difficult for the Islanders to do a full teardown. I've been going on about these contracts for a long time. I hate the type of contracts given out in the NHL.

I’m a Nelson fan but he does. A lot of rumors circulating around about trading him. The returns I saw were laughable. I’m sure they are absolute horse crap nobody knows what Lameriello is doing that I know. The only way Lou even considers it is if we’re going into a full tear down. I don’t see him doing that just yet.

I cannot see Nelson being traded. I can understand not giving Nelson away for just anything. Bailey is a different story and I'd anything for him.

If raty is up here to stay let's see what he can do in the top 6

More and more I'm liking the idea of possibly trading Nelson and letting Raty get the 2C minutes the rest of the year.

I think Nelson would garner a 1st or a solid prospect from a playoff team looking to strengthen their middle.

Since this team appears to evaluating for the future and not for the playoffs...I would evaluate you what you can get for Wahlstrom. While I love the kid. He seems to be get a case of the injury bug at a young age.

I would at least investigate moving Nelson. He'll be 32 in October

Nelson is worth a first and a solid prospect. Have to remember that first is going to most likely be late. Maybe real late. We would just have to take on salary most likely. If this is a longer kind of rebuild that may not be a big deal depending on how much for how long. 6 million is not an outrageous cap hit for what a team is getting in him imo. I’m saying this not wanting to trade Nelson unless it’s a real solid return. I don’t see it happening I don’t think Lou is blowing up the team to that extent nor would I want him too.

I don’t think Lou will do ANYTHING. I either read or saw a recent interview with him saying something to the effect that he believed in this group at the beginning of the season and still does, and basically guys that normally score aren’t.

In a perfect world he’d get what he can for expiring contracts and be done after this season so a new GM can do whatever he feels necessary to compete or rebuild. I’m so done with Lou.

Lou has been scary Garth like in his approach with this roster. We go from mad Mike trading everyone to Garth and Lou making very few meaningful type moves. Been very little happy medium in terms of the roster work and Islander GM's. I get the hiring of Barry, but the roster is just as important as well.

I have to believe he would sell off Varlamov, mayfield, try to get something for Beau but will most likely fail, and Parise if he wants to be traded at the TDL if we continue playing like this. I can also totally see him doing what you’re saying as well

I guess this is why Lou did not even talk to JG. He did not want to subtract from this wonderful talent.

"You have to make sure that whatever you add is not subtracting".

Maybe he has to say this seeing we have a few weeks until the deadline, try to get the most out of these guys until then? But man, how could he not lose trust or belief in these guys...

"Have I lost the trust and belief in the team? Absolutely not. I still believe the way I did in the beginning of the summer."

Plain and simple, Lou messed up the last two off-season's. I'm sure it hurt when he lost out on Panarin, but you cannot stop trying to improve and get that impact forward.

Bingo! I don't think it's more complicated than that. I think he has to say these things just so the team keeps trying, and doesn't get demoralized. Hopefully, he can stockpile some draft picks at the trade deadline by unloading some of the veterans, especially anyone on an expiring contract who isn't in Lou's future plans for the team.

Bailey finds his game with Raty tonight and puts up 55 points this season playing his wing the rest of the way. Lou resigns him to five year deal.
