If this senile bastard moves our 1st for him I may lose it, this move was needed last year

Lou has to do the right thing for the future. Lou has had a great career. Please do not end it by making lousy moves.

This was the off-season before last. Would’ve loved it. He would have been a great fit and helped our PP immensely imo. Two years too old. If anyone remembers St. Louis was rumored to have wanted Beauvillier but there was resistance from Lameriello with him being part of the trade. Of course we’ll never know but imagine if it’s true.

Islanders got shoutout twice against Tampa. In world world would just adding Parise and Chara get the Islanders over the top?

Correct. Well some of us did if it meant just giving up Beauvillier which I won’t mention any names but there was at least one of us on board with that.

If this senile bastard moves our 1st for him I may lose it, this move was needed last year. This team is going to get healthy and put enough wins together to not get a good pick and stay mediocre forever. They are in hockey limbo, not good enough to win or bad enough to completely tear it down

So like the Devils after Parise signed in Minnesota. Who was their GM again?

I just have no idea what Lou was thinking with his lack of moves the last few years? He must have really bought into the two long playoff runs. If you added a 25 year old Parise it would have made sense.

I think it was he partially bought into those playoff runs and his loyalty to vet players which over the years has come at the expense of teams he has managed. This is another example of that. Clutterbuck contract, Chara when the entire world knew he was toast, Martin, Greene being resigned when it was obvious it was time to move on, Johnston(wtf is he doing here I don’t care if his contract can buried in the minors it never is lol), trading Toews.

Buying into those playoff runs to the point you make zero changes was fools gold with the shortened seasons. The team was sputtering both seasons leading up to the playoffs. There was no chance they would’ve made the playoffs the year Pelech was out with his injury without the stoppage from Covid. They were playing terrible with him. Team couldn’t score and has a terrible PP. That’s been the problem since he took over the team and it still exists. Whose fault is that? Long road trip? Covid? New arena Jinx?

When many of us mentioned these things, some did not want to hear it and just mentioned Lou was a Hall of Fame GM and he was not Garth. Lou badly mismanaged this roster and it has hurt the team. Team around the Islanders continue to improve. You cannot stand pat and especially when you do not have top prospects ready to help. If you watch hockey and sports long enough, you do not have to be a GM to be able to tell what is a good roster. This Islanders roster has been lacking for years.

Toronto still hasn't won a playoff series but I'd rather be in the position dubas has put them in than ours

If they kept the subway goal horn this team would have been better
they are an older team but more importantly they are a slow team in a fast league and most teams have 3 or 4 high end guys and we have 1 maybe 2. Nelson is our leading scorer and is 58th in the league for God sake

I would think knowing when to cut ties with players that you have a relationship with and are still moderately producing has to be one of the tougher components of a GM’s job. I get it we all forget about the human element of this but as a fan that’s the last thing I want my GM getting caught up with. Believe me nobody in my career could care less about that and I’m sure most would echo the same. Results are all that matters. No offense to Chara but him reaching whatever milestone he wanted to achieve while he stunk up the ice left a lasting negative impression in my mind.

I remember back in the day, Bill Torrey got heat for the Islander after the dynasty and the team getting old and some thought Bill should have cut ties with some of the players earlier. It's good to be loyal, but you need to see the big picture and understand when the player is no longer a good option and the team needs more talent. Lou likes that grinding vet player, but it's a new game now.

Seems like being at a wake last night was more enjoyable than watching that game
- eichiefs9

Definitely, but I will say, if it’s an Irish persons wake, those are more fun than most party’s I go to these days 😃.

Trotz and Lamoriello speak at least once a week. Trotz is still under contract. He would be a candidate. Barry is under no obligation to return. He’s likely better off taking over a new team this summer, but you never know. Trotz likes Lou and Scott Malkin, and Trotz is loyal.

On one hand, I'd say "Yeah, sure Chris...there's absolutely zero chance of this happening."
On the other, this would be the most New Islanders thing ever.....

I also find the 'under contract' portion interesting. I know their was a lot of speculation early on that Trotz actually wanted to step down due to personal issues he had experienced (like the loss of his mother etc). The rumor had been when he was approached about plans for the following year he wouldn't commit to actually returning at which point Lou made the decision to give the role to Lambert. The rest became public speak etc like saying we 'needed a new voice' etc. Trotz meanwhile stated he 'still wasn't quite ready to return' a while back.

Lou's biggest hero has always been George Steinbrenner. Would Trotz be his Billy Martin?

All highly doubtful but again...Islanders gonna Islander

No idea where Chris is getting his info. No question Barry is a much better coach than Lane. This is beyond coaching though.

Lou has done crazy things with coaches in the past. Would this be wild? yes. Is it SO outside the realm of possibility? no.
In truth, methinks Trotz stated he would like to coach an original 6 team.

Trotz eliminated that rumor when he publicly said he was disappointed he wouldn’t get the opportunity to coach the team this year. I really have a hard time believing he would say that if he asked to be let go
