Huh, the refs and league apparently saw it differently!

I agree, it was surprising that he returned in the game. Hopefully the team would hold him out tonight (and beyond) if there was a risk of longer-term consequences. But I guess if you're going to make an issue of the potential head injury to Pageau, you'd have to also talk about the direct cause of that injury, and that might inconveniently get in the way of the feel-good Historic Record Chase story.

The lack of response from anyone..........the refs, the NHL, Pageau's teammates.........was disappointing. I suppose the argument from the point of view of the refs and the NHL is that Ovie is much bigger than Pageau, so his shoulder naturally hit Pageau's head due to that size differential, not because Ovie was aiming for Pageau's head. I am not saying I agree with that argument, and there have been plenty of guys suspended for shoulder hits to the head. The real reason could be the one you mention. Then there's my favorite conspiracy theory, involving Colin Campbell, who has been shown to be incredibly biased toward certain players/teams, and yet he still wields all kinds of power in the NHL executive offices.
