The fact the Islanders are still being turned down and cannot sign one top FA is a problem. It should not still be happening with a new building and Hall of Fame GM and if getting to the conference finals twice is a big deal.
Dobson is looking good but the Islanders have not been able to reach young forwards. Wally is still struggling this year. It's been sit young players and play them all over the lineup. Hopefully Räty, Dufour, Bolduc are the real deal. It remains to be seen if the Islanders handle them any better. - ses111
Sure it is. But is that the fault of the organization? Management? Not really.
Nor is there anything much they can do about it, other than offer max term at high dollars. Which you hate. |

Holmstrom has looked good. I'm not sure of his offensive upside. Maybe put him with Nelson. Dobson needs work on his defense , but is a keeper for sure and should be on his way to be a star.
I would let Wally sink or swim with Barzal when he gets back. He has a good shot. Just give him a long run and see what happens. No sense playing Bailey or Parise with Barzal at this point. - ses111
Holmstrom has actually played with Nelson the last couple game before Lane switched it up in the second half of yesterdays debacle.
I think this year it is Wally’s make it or break it year no matter who’s line he’s on honestly.
Boys need to get their poop together or there will be changes coming.

Do we? We all thought he tried to sign Gaudreau - Cptmjl
Gaudreau wanted to go to Columbus. He reached out to the Jackets, not the other way around. So even if it’s true that Lou didn’t make Jenny an offer, it’s not like the Islanders missed out.
FWIW, I heard on Sirius NHL several interviews which suggest that most metro teams knew he wasn’t interested in offers from their clubs. So many didn’t bother. |

I don’t see a rip down. A retooling yes especially if they don’t make the POs this year. - nyisles7
I’d be open to an aggressive retool. Might as well do it during a possibly historically deep draft. |

When it’s different GM’s striking out it’s an organization issue. Maybe they need a better sales pitch? Maybe they need a course from Neil Smith on how he was able to sign those 3 FA’s in 40 days with a lousy building?
I can live him giving top money to top FA’s. It’s giving lousy contracts to grinding and mediocre talent that is the issue. |

Yeah I agree. I would love making the PO it’s great for the fans (some anyway ) and obviously great for the younger players as well.
But as you said this years draft class is thick with talent so …. |

No question Barzal should drive the net more, but to be truly dynamic he will need much better wings. Barzal is not on the level of Matthews and McDavid. - ses111
Jack huges is who hes the most similar too in style and skill |

Pretty much what I want also. Like I said in a post a while back I don’t think it(retool) really ever works because of the way the cap is structured right now but in two years we will get more room with an increase. Also factor in Bailey being off the books. I don’t think we’re getting rid of him without giving up assets. We have some good to great players in place but we have some deadwood we’re stuck with. I don’t agree with giving up anything really from this upcoming draft hoping to rekindle whatever magic this team had. No time like the present rip the bandaid off.
Aligned with most of this.

Didn't Gaudreau himself laugh when asked about the booing at UBS and said he was never even approached by the team? |

That was bizarre. Gaudreau had no idea why they were booing. |

Someone has to be getting scratched. If Pageau couldn't go I imagine it would have been Raty called up to play center. |

From morning skate, looks like Dufour will draw in for Holmstrom, who’s not here. And looks like Cholowski will come in for Wotherspoon.

Can we scratch the entire team? I would play Ross after the last game and the team showing no heart.

Not sure on his skating but it can't be worse than Lee and the kid can rip it. Looking forward to seeing him although drawing in vs the bruins sucks |
