So just curious. Where are you slotting in Phillips? I don’t think he is bottom 6. So who in the top 6 are you demoting so that he can get his chance? Hubs? Toffoli? Dube or Mange?
- DuranDuran

I would put him with where Dube is but Dube has started to do better last few games so i am not sure. But Dube is known to be either really good or bad. So let's see.

I like Boeser just not anywhere near 6.65 x 3 plus todays game is about speed and Boeser is a sub par skater.

The Flames trading for Boeser would be an awful move along the lines of something you'd expect the Canucks to make. He's not a two way player, isn't worth what he's getting paid, and adds way to much next year. The Flames are already in a situation where they can't really do anything this coming off-season as they've already committed more money to next year's payroll than they have coming off the books.

The only way the deal makes sense for the Flames is if it's straight up for Lucic and the Canucks are retaining 50%.

Yeah that’s probably not going to happen. I look back to when Dube was captain of the World junior team and Phillips failed to make the cut. Phillips was still a dynamic player with more points but not able to impress enough to make that team.
Not saying he won’t get a chance, just that it’s going to take an injury to a top 6 before he has a spot.
Would love to see him as I was impressed with his one game, but even then Sutter was forced to play him, at the end of the season, when it didn’t matter.

I agree, Canucks new management team handcuffed themselves by giving out $. Happens all the time as GM’s don’t worry about long term because so many are gone before it matters.
See Huberdeau, Kadri, Markstrom etc…….

Agree. Calgary is in win right now mode, otherwise we're hooped. Basically zero cap space going forward. If Calgary wants to add scoring to their top 6, maybe Coronato is the best option. It'll be late season but he's a goal scorer and playing with Huberdeau must be an intriguing possibility for him.

I can't see them bringing Coronato in after what happened with Bennett.

Too soon for him ? 10 of the 12 drafted in front of him have turned pro already. 8 have played NHL games.

At the end of last year, Sutter mentioned that drafted players need to earn a spot, they are not entitled to it. I think he was talking about Bennett and Valimaki.

Both were brought in extremely young, and although they had enough talent to stay with the big team, they should have spent some time developing their game in the AHL. IMO both players became resentful and played poorly to get traded.

If you were Coronato, would you leave Harvard early if you werent all but guaranteed an NHL job? A Harvard Degree is worth multi millions in future earnings.

I would get my degree, but that is just me. Its also why I am not sure if they guy will play for the Flames. I hope he does not pull a Fox.

Giving the guy a drink of water is very different than opening up a full-time spot on the roster.

I said this before, only way Coronato signs this year is if he’s got a guaranteed spot. Burning a year off his entry level deal might be the only way he signs in Calgary.

I believe he meant Dube and Valimaki. Dube came out and took control of his destiny and earned a spot. Valimaki withered like a wallflower, hence he’s a coyote now.
I think in Bennetts case he was unhappy with the former coaching staff and asked to be traded. Once Sutter arrived he rescinded that request but it was too late the writing was on the wall.

So is being a star in the NHL. He’s young, but I’m sure hockey is his top priority. Just not sure he wants to be in Calgary.

Coronato is Fox 2.0, plain and simple.

The fulcrum will be at the end of this college season. If the Flames feel he's ready to make the jump and he isnt interested in signing im sure Tre will move him at the draft rather than risk Fox 2.0

Trading him now would be the exact same as with Fox. Coronato’s the same age Fox was when the Flames traded him. Fox didn’t leave for nothing. The Flames actually did extremely well in the Fox trade so Fox 2.0 wouldn’t be the worst way things could go.

Fox was a throw in in the trade with Carolina, Hurricanes we’re hopeful he would sign there. He let it be known that he wanted to play in New York, that’s why he was still available in the 3rd round. Flames had zero chance of him signing.

If Coronato forces a trade, I just hope he's open to playing for more than just one team. That said, he'd be a good fit hockey wise in Calgary. There is a top 6 spot open on the right side.

That said our forward cupboard is a position of strength and a trade from that pool will not be a shocker:
Coronato, Pelletier, Zary, Stomgren, Ronni, Schwindt
Phillips, Duer

Not a Sutter player IMO.

Yeah, it would take a lot of work from Sutter to turn him into a two-way player. He's also not fast.
