Rooney draws back in... we got this now While Phillips had another 2 Goals and 1 Assist game, and Pelletier had 1 G and 1 A game. But we all know as per Uncle Daryl... AHL just isn't hockey and is more close to say... volleyball than hockey I guess. So it's meaningless what Phillips is doing in the AHL.

Phillips is going to have to force his way onto the Flames, hometown boy, everyone wants to see him play. Looch hasn’t scored on 45 games, and I can’t remember his last real fight.

I think if Flames don't give him a chance, he will sign somewhere else next year. No?

Im sure if we get injuries Phillips & Pelts will get their chance. People forget we have had a few years here where we havent had too many injuries, which is really unusual. Their time will come Im sure. They just extended Sutter for 2 more years so he isnt going anywhere, so me thinks they may as well get used to how they operate instead of whining day after day.

Sure sick of Sutter and his stubbornness!! Phillips is 24 he’s not a dam kid and 💯 deserves a shot !!! And yes fire Sutter if that’s what it takes his dinosaur ways are getting old!!

People don’t realize that Sutters not getting fired, if upper management thought Phillips had to be in the show, he’d be there. I want to see him given a chance but unless injuries create a spot he’s going to have to keep lighting it up in the A til that time comes.

So just curious. Where are you slotting in Phillips? I don’t think he is bottom 6. So who in the top 6 are you demoting so that he can get his chance? Hubs? Toffoli? Dube or Mange?

Its a great question Duran and probably the main reason we havnt seen a promotion yet. For me his biggest contibution would be on the PP so baring an injury to someone in the top 9, maybe 4th line minutes and a spot on PP 1 or 2 to start.
At 145 lbs im not sure he's an NHL player but on the PP there is no doubt in my mind he is and we need help there IMO.

3rd line with backland sit Lewis or Rooney or lucic and play him power play and if he earns it slides into top 6 if one of those guys starts to slip and rotate him around to see how he does fit in top six not really rocket science

He will control his own destiny next summer as a group 6:

A player becomes a Group 6 UFA if they are 25, completed 3 or more professional seasons, has a contract expiring, and has played less than 80 NHL Games. For goalies, this is 28 NHL games with more than 30 minutes of ice time.

AHL success rarely translates to NHL success since NHL calibre players usually don't spend more than a season or two in the AHL. Who's the last player to spend 4+ years in the AHL and then go on to become a productive player?

Look at Poturalski. Been better than Phillips for the past few years and is bigger and still isn't getting a shot.

It's not rocket science to know that Phillips isn't going to succeed playing on the third line with Backlund. It's the reason players like him don't make the NHL. If you aren't in an offensive position, you're useless to the team. Just like Czarnik, just like Quine, kind of like Jankowski. They all dominated the AHL. Look at who led the AHL in points over the last ten years, you've probably heard of two of them.

Even if it's for future considerations. Someone will give Phillipps a shot. Phillips reminds me of a blue color version of Austin Czarnik.
