And that is great news in terms of players evaluations good and bad.

Mitts and VO just aren't good players for this team. Have also seen they need upgrades at D, two at least in Bryson (would be ok as 7th) and Fitz.

At least they are finding that out, along with the opposite end with Peterka, Cozens and Quinn. Powers is killing it, Samuelsson is foundational. Lyubushkin is ok as 3rd. Jost was a good pickup for 3rd /4th line duties.

They have found out quite a bit in a short period of time on the big club. Down on the farm they are seeing Rousek, Rosen and Kulich emerging nicely.

For an evaluation, growth and development perspective, I think they are meeting the objective.

Totally agree lon, I am atleast a bit intrigued and excited. Other than D they have built a nice pipeline. And it's at that point where you now what you have and don't. Time to use a strength and help are weaknesses. I believe Kulich can play up here at this point. If you don't want to trade Mitts or Olofsson atleast see what a line of Kulich Krebs Olofsson might be able to do. Or send Krebs down and see who he can build some Chemistry with.
Kulich Krebs Rousek looks like they could work together.

I would like to see Okposo in the scratch rotation.
Girgs/ Jost/ Asplund would be much more effective

Just interesting that most of the guys they've been evaluating and need to move on from were signed to deals for one more year. Imagine they'd like another year in Roch for most of the prospects. Can they really kick the can and run this 4th line out again next year?

I was fine with Girgs and Okposo for this year, and still am...although, I do love razzing on Girgs for good reason .
Next season is different, the roster s/b improved to fight for a PO spot.

Girgs and Okposo are the 3rd line. They are easily replaceable.

Referring to VO, Mitts, Joker, Bryson. One year left of each, could easily bring them back. You probably need to move on from 3 of them to be good next year.

Good stuff!!

Nice in-depth piece on what Sammy brings to this team off the ice. Could see him wearing an A in the future.

Also article mentions that Vinny is day to day with an upper body injury and that Bryson has been cleared to practice.

He's a calming force for Dahlin, helped him grow. They need to find that for Power

It's gotta be an interesting front office. Have to think Ventura has a list of targets, while Donnie loves Fitz and possibly Joker, while KA just wants to make everyone happy.

Shanks on the 2nd night of a back to back, end of an East Coast road trip. They give up the third most goals in the entire league. Recipe for a lot of Buffalo goals tonight.

Hits are a piece to the puzzle of a winning gameplan.

Hits create opportunities, which increase your odds to win.

- washedup20

If you are throwing hits, it means you do not have the puck.

To win a hockey game, you need to score more goals than the other team.

In order to score goals, you need to possess the puck.

Generally if you are outhitting your opponents, it means you are losing the puck possession battle, and more often then not means you are conceding more chances.

It’s really that simple

Maybe by putting more fans in the seats

Us old folks remember Nolan first teams
Probably going to lose but you will pay the price

Not sure that would work now but hitting is still part of the game

Last 10 years I would of been full of nasty tough bangers who could scrap
At least people would of had something to cheer about

- Anderdog

The Sabres being one of the highest scoring teams in the league isn’t entertaining ?

Well, there’s the part where you forecheck like demons and hit people. Causing turnovers that lead to offensive chances and possibly even a goal or two.
It’s not really “that simple”.

Can well timed hits also cause change of possession and lead to scoring chances?

Not at all, I’ve been putting my 8 month old down for a nap.

If you can show me a correlation between hits and winning hockey games I’d love to see it.

You’ll never find it on a chart counting the number of hits, or any other stat line
But, that doesn’t mean it’s irrelevant.
