Happen again?

When have we lost a star in their prime?

He so desperately wants to be the "i told you so" guy.

It’s something to talk about if you have a two hour show every day. That’s a lot of air to fill.

from last thread:

Just imagine getting a top 15 pick for 2 months of Ben Chiarot.

- Scabeh

i could see l’crapitante making the stanley cup playoffs this season👍

i remember them humiliating our laffs in game 7 in ‘21 when pundits thought they wouldn’t even make the playoffs🤦🏿‍♂️

the habs still have anderson and most of the skaters that they had way back then👍

some of us in this forum blamed this failure on the refs, babs and freddy🤦🏿‍♂️

i will maintain my position that kylie dufuss has not invested enough in building from the net out and sandpaper at every position🤦‍♂️

i will happily limp outside of my home bottomless and yell at the sky if our loafs win the cup this year👍🏿

It's why I like him so much. He doesn't sugarcoat things because he doesn't know how to. He's just himself and he has no filter.

Edit: maybe Sundin, but he played only a half season more.

Not the same but someone should be fired for posting pics of Sitler and Salming in RedWing uniforms on the telecast last night

Just listened to the Kypreos' comments. He didn't say Matthews was leaving.

I remembered it as Ballard trading him because Ballard wanted to give him a chance to win a Cup, but the Leafs made the playoffs that year and Detroit didn’t.

That's how twisted the leafiness was during the Ballard years.

I always hoped he would sell the team to Marge Schott, because at least it would be a little better.

And doing a little googling to fill in my memory, Salming signed with Detroit as a free agent, but I’m 99% positive at some point in the last stages of Salming’s Leafs career, Ballard stated he would trade him to a contender.

I think that he's great because his stupidity is a part of it.

His lack of filter and book smarts, plays perfectly into the dynamic of their show. He does tone it down a good bit when he's on the panel, but still himself.

Kypreos isn't exactly the most liquid-cooled 440 ski-doo on Lake Scucog if you know what I mean. His insight into Matthews' future is worth less than a pine cone.

when can we stop pretending that it’s any different now?

first off, salary cap is bullpoop in any league.

these are private businesses and whatever deal the owner makes with ze’s media, players or managers have always had consequences

i think that it’s a relatively new saying “ownership of a team is a hobby for billionaires and not a new money making venture”

i paraphrase

if one thinks that shanny and dufuss n queeb lose any sleep after partying with their ice dancers who help them fill the seats then one will continue to be confounded by their playoff failures

100% disagree. A salary cap - in some form - is important to provide a semblance of parity to the league.

Leagues aren't competitive without a salary cap. It's not even a sport if you don't have them.

For sure, but it'd just be easier, and highly likely better quality, if they'd just do it and sell it.

If they don't I'll ask my mom to sew the patch onto my Leafs leather jacket.

I disagree. A salary cap is an out for incompetent management. Leafs paying welfare checks to Tampa when Tampa won the cup and was $20M over the cap during the playoffs is laughable. While the cap in theory might promote parity, in reality it does nothing of the sort in the NHL. It also promotes a cheating mentality, where the majority of teams are fixated on ways to circumvent the cap without any repercussions.
