Buyout period begins today through July 12 I believe. Free agency starts on July 13.

Sure, I am very bubbly as the draft is almost here., but Blackhawk -wise I do have questions.

DeBrincat- keep him and he is your Krieder in 2031 ?

OR trade?
I think there are ramifications by two GM KD moves, this non-move/mover with the cat, and the clear MacIver connection to the Richardson coach signing (former teammates) and how that works out.

Clearly, in my mind, if the 'cat goes, Kane (who will always be a Blackhawk in everyone eyes), no matter what he HAS SAID, he starts getting itchy during next season and at the deadline asks to go to contender.
Same with Toews.

I just don't see why anyone thinks that Kane & Toews (and EVEN Seth Jones) is going to see Luke Richardson managerial competence and hockey knowledge as new insight for them...and I will try to be kind here, now, Richardson was a hack as a player.
Tell me how if I am one of the core (he didn't call before his presser) are gonna feel he has THAT much to offer them in advice after their hockey careers DWARF his.
(OK I said it).

My point is I see them getting itchy quickly into this next season if the 'cat is not their to help manufacture goals.

And weren't the bolded all on the team when it earned 48 pts?
- vabeachbear

Yeah that's my point. It takes a long time even with pieces in place to get from being very bad to being kind of not so bad to being very good.

SJ just fired their entire coaching staff.

John Madden was a part of that staff. He would be great pick up as an assistant for Richardson (and no I’m not trying to bring all the old Hawks back like Bowman… I’ve just always thought Madden was a brilliant hockey mind with how smart he was as a player. I have no doubt that’s transferred over to coaching).

I would love to see the curent 2023 draft class of defenseman as having an answer to the Blackhawks need for a super quick, accurate passing bigger offensive defenseman.

I think Kevin Korchinski is the closets to a prospect there, and he needs longer work as a defenseman, but the draft cupboard there is rare as far as a guy with size and transition excellence goes.

I think they are set with bigger its who with play on the backline, but I don't see their big guys as "makars of the future."

So maybe you pluck one with return for the 'cat besides the 2022 chances?

San Jose without a coaching staff and with an interim GM less than a week before the draft and 13 days until free agency. Sounds like a recipe for disaster.

I would think so, as I read somewhere that he is second cousin twice removed to Shawn's rights

But if Colorado would have dumped them for future draft picks, they aren't parading around with the cup today

Flyer Russian goalie prospect not allowed to leave the Mother country. He's accused of draft dodging. Maybe this will make teams think twice before drafting a Russian.

LeBrun in today's Althletic:

Fiala trade should help fuel DeBrincat trade talks

The L.A. Kings had talks with Chicago on Alex DeBrincat but opted for Kevin Fialia instead, and there’s no question the Blackhawks want more than what Minnesota got for Fiala, which was still a very solid return.

But it speaks to Chicago’s valuing DeBrincat as a more proven NHL goal scorer than Fiala so far, and it’s hard to dispute that.

So it’s probably going to take a three-asset package to get DeBrincat from the Blackhawks, although it’s not that simple to suggest it’s a firm price because it depends on the varying quality of the assets and on the organization offering them.

The sense is that some of the teams that were in on Fiala may now focus their attention on DeBrincat, who already has drawn plenty of interest over the past month. Next Thursday’s first round will act as a pressure point of sorts because the Blackhawks would want a first-round pick that night as part of any DeBrincat package.

I wonder if Seattle makes a pitch on DeBrincat. My TSN colleague Chris Johnston reported during one of our Insider Trading segments Thursday that Seattle was among the final teams hot on Fiala’s trail, which speaks to the aggressive nature I was talking about in my rumblings from Wednesday as far as expecting the Kraken to try to make some things happen this offseason.

Clearly the Lightning and Nick Paul see the perfect fit. 7 Year term and just over $3 million per year aav. Great deal for both.

I like what Nick Paul brings, but 7 years is just ridiculous to me. He's 27 now.

This is the same trap the 2016 Blackhawks found themselves in. They are close but their best players are on the downward slope of their careers. I think this is the time the GM has to consider moving out the star players to maximize return and rebuild on the fly.

Trading Duchense to Ottawa for their #1 (Makar) didn’t hurt.

Exactly, the Hawks should trade for McDonagh, sign E Kane, MAF, and trade all of our picks for veterans.

No doubt drafting well is a big part of rebuilding but there are very few successful teams that aren’t largely comprised of players they drafted.

Don't be surprised if Yzerman helps Tampa Bay with their cap problems. Maybe Detroit takes McDonagh (if he waives to go there) plus a high pick or prospect in return for a lower pick. It helps to have friends in the right places.
- boilermaker100

With what picks or prospects? They've traded all their firsts until 2025 and don't have many good prospects left either.

Joel Quennville wasn't much of a player and Derek King had a good NHL career. Who's the better coach?

And it was StanBo that helped Tampa with T. Johnson.
