Former flyer NAK wins the cup
- 2Real

Yes, he tailed off here. But the great AVS scouts (Who also recognized Makar huge talent and upside) saw his potential.

How are we going to get top picks like Mackinon, landeskog, makar, and Rantenan with an aggressive retool
- 2Real

Cale Makar was the unanimous playoff MVP, scored the 3rd most points of any player in the 2022 playoffs and scored the 4th most playoff points for a defenseman in NHL history, only surpassed by Paul Coffey, Brian Leetch and Al MacInnis. When the Avalanche captain was asked how other teams might copy what Colorado did to win a cup, Landeskog replied "I don't know, go find yourself a Cale Makar".

Yes, good answer! Thanks Ronnie!

If anyone dares to think that Makar would make the Flyers a contender I have a hard time with that.

One player does not change the fortunes of a franchise. It remains a team game, and it takes more than one year to properly build a core.

Colorado without MacK, Rantaten, Byram or Landeskog is a different animal. All played parts to ensure the Avs won the cup.

The Flyers will try to sell us on an idea that they will just outwork opponents to winning something.

No way in hell.

- FlyerFan3260

The fact is Colorado had both. They had high end players that outworked their opponents to win something. What Colorado did this playoff series against Tampa was very impression. I mean last night, they shut Tampa down. For all that firepower and skill, it was their tenacity and speed that stifled a two time Cup champion. However even with all that talent, the Cup did not come overnight for the Avalanche. They had plenty of playoff disappointments along the way, but Sakic was patient and allowed the team to grow together until they finally learned what they had to do to win it all. Getting top end speed and skill is important, but I hope the Flyers learn that if they do not have patience and are willing to go through tough defeats along the way, they will never get a Cup of their own. That being said, the Flyers had a chance to draft a player like Makar, and they failed; Sakic didn't!

Good thing Giroux nixed that trade to the Avs!!
- Phillywhiteout

But on a serious note, I hope everyone understands what Giroux did to the Flyers this season! His own selfishness lead to the Flyers basically getting nothing for him, but alas, Giroux gets to watch another team once again hoist the Cup. Karma!

Don't forget the Flyers basically gifted them their first Stanley Cup.

Forsberg, Roy, Keane, Ricci, Simon, Lemieux, and Krupp were all part of the Lindros trade fallout.

Considering how Roy won the Smythe in 2001 as well, you could probably argue the Flyers were pretty much responsible for their second SC too

I do understand the situation. Giroux had the right to chose where he wanted to go, I get that. But as a Flyers fan loyal to the organization, not any one player, Giroux did not do right by the Flyers, not by any means. If he had just opened it up to 3 teams Giroux may very well be a Cup winner today, but more importantly, the Flyers would have got a real return for him that would help them moving forward. Who knows what Tippet will become as player, and what luck the Flyers might get with the 2 picks they got, but from what I read the Avalanche were prepared to offer a lot more, and so would have Florida, if Giroux would have simply enabled Fletcher to make the best deal he could. Instead Giroux single-minded selfishness not only cost him a Cup, but it also cost the Flyers dearly. Just my opinion. I loved Giroux as player for the Flyers, but to be honest I pretty much hate him now and hope he never wins a Cup.

Makar joins Orr and Lidstrom as dmen to win Cup, Conn Smythe, and Norris in same season.

Patrick was so bad, the Flyers had to give him away. Can't make it up with this franchise.

Hey, I understand you love Giroux and he can do no wrong in your eyes. But you cannot ignore the FACT that Giroux tied Fletcher's hands at the deadline, and that should never have happened!

We can only hope that a team above the Flyers makes a similar mistake and the best player falls to the Flyers at number 5.

When you get a NMC then you get a decide. If I want sunny Florida then that is where I say I want to go. He has a wife and kids. Maybe she didn't want to go to Colorado. You do what's best for you and your family.

Only in your world is Tippet and a first round draft pick nothing. But hey you coached and like to tell others they never played the game. Most importantly, Giroux earned his NMC with his play and he fairly exercised it under the provisions of the CBA. To say after all he did for the team for a decade, that he didn't do right by the team is completely asinine. Again, you read something somewhere and like a sheep, are now being led to come up with this opinion. Please post the link to what you read.

More ridiculousness. Only in your world is a player exercising a right that he earned and fairly negotiated doing wrong.

But did he have to make it public?? Couldn't Giroux have kept his ultimate desire to move to Florida between himself and Fletcher, so at least Fletcher could have leveraged a few teams to get the best deal possible? From what I understand, Florida knew Giroux wanted to be there and also knew other teams were not in the mix, therefore they had all the leverage.

I would still be ok with AUbe-Kubal. But lets not act like guys on here weren't complaining about the penalties and at times his inconsistent play.

I thought he should maybe sit some games but I never wanted to waive him. I still thought there was enough to like in his game that he could play a good 4th line role.
