If an NHL team behind the scenes negotiated before the UFA period with a player that they did not hold the rights to. If caught that team would be fined and have to forfeit draft picks. In the Flyers case, most likely the 5th overall pick. The players agent would risk decertification as a player agent.

So I guess the Flyers have risked tampering charges and risk losing draft picks to negotiate with a soon to be UFA?
- MJL

Absolutely. You don’t actually think they don’t talk to players do you? The league knows. It’s kept hush hush until around window of talking period. I mean especially in jg situation. Hometown kid. Wife there. Flyers affiliated with wife’s workplace. Very easy to “have conversations with a player

I would love the next 88, but I just don't think the team is going to sacrifice putting a bad team on the ice at this point in time, Though the D needs some work and the idea of just counting on Ellis to be healthy is scary, the potential is still there for this team. The outlook is not as bad as the product they were last year, Couts being out hurt bad, Ellis could stabilize things, I expect a rebound from TK and more improvement from Farabee. If Frost finds his game and we play a little backchecking and d this team is not terrible, Not bad enough in my mind to just junk a season or two hoping we draft the next 88. Snider might be irrelevant to todays league, but to some old crap fans like myself he is still the golden standard for this team and what expectations are.
- GPerogie

Correct they are not going to sacrifice it as they are piss poor run organization in 2022. They have zero vision and it is run on a year to year agenda.

Much like last year they will be bad and it will be accidental as they want to “compete”.

Well with Snider it was Cup or bust. Now it is all about being in the playoff mix. Sad and pathetic really.

Zip it Cliff. Backdoor talks happen either directly or indirectly all the time. De-certification. You are a clown. Get out of the house. Take a walk to the ave. Go get some companionship.

Better chance he goes to the caps than the Flyers. That was the talk over the weekend at Hollydell.

Fine?
Boy would be great to have you on our team next year?
Oh you’d like that too?
Boy you gonna make bank… probably 10 mil per…
What’s that you say you’d definitely play for philly at 10 mil?
We gonna make sure we have that money 😉 😉
Oh what’s that you’ll make sure you’re ready to sign at 10 mil? Wink 😉 😉
Cool see you in a few weeks

Oh gonna be sooo great when swami right yet again.

Yeah look at jg presser saying goodbye to flames at end of season. In tears knowing he was coming East.

Caps we’re on his list tho I gues. Caps/Boston/philly/ny. The wife really doesn’t want to leave philly and jg was torn between always wanting to play for philly or joining a team close in the East that can actually contend. He knows that’s not case with philly but I think he’s decided to live with it

Being a bad team and drafting high has no guarantee of success. It might be easier on a simulation like XBOX to try that but when the team has fans, seats to sell, merchandise to market you can't just tank to try to get pics Snider would have never had that in his days, and this team still has one of the better all time NHL records, though its taken a hit lately. Pride is playing to win every game.

Without the "generational talent" type players you are pretty much guaranteed not to hoist the cup and it is much harder to even maintain sustained playoff appearances. Without Stamkos and Hedman do you think the rest of the team and coaching get the team to the Finals? No. How about the Avalanche without MacKinnon and Makar? No.

All the coaching and depth in the world is not going to overcome well coached talent. 2 1st overall forwards and 2 top 5 overall pick dmen who panned out. Not to mention Landeskog 2nd overall. Do you think either of those teams regret the lean years which resulted in them getting 1st overall, 2nd overall, 4th overall draft picks?

Teams still have to pick the right players, develop them, and put players around them but you can't draft players who aren't on the board when you get to pick. Sustained success doesn't happen without top end talent.

Sure you can end up like EDM and PHI and screw up those picks or surrounding talent but is the goal to be a playoff bubble team every other year or win the Stanley Cup?

The Flyers being a cap team with the track record/level of talent on the team is malpractice. It could be argued that the Flyers are further away from the Stanley Cup than the Kraken.

Too bad he never made a part 2. Always was talked about.

Joan Rivers was funny as hell in that movie. They all were.

It’s like when briere signed in Philly. I knew it in January 7 months before during season. Brieres wife told birons with they’d sign in Philly. Biron was pushing biron to sign there. How did I find out? Know people that went to same church as the wives. It was actually tallinders wife that leaked it.

Briere did want come to the Flyers as his top choice but was open to other possibilities. The Flyers put in offers on Briere, Gomez and Drury. Felt good about their chances on Briere but didn't know for sure.

Drury finally said no. Briere said yes. Flyers withdrew the Gomez offer.

That's firsthand per Danny and per Paul Holmgren from the Flyers at 50 interview sessions with Jay Greenberg. It wasn't a done deal way in advance.

So the Flyers acquired the negotiation rights to impending FAs Timonen and Hartnell, negotiated and signed both to 6-year contracts within an hour of completing the trade with Nashville to be able to negotiate with their agents?

Haven't stated that it doesn't happen. Just stating what a team potentially risks if caught doing so.

JG

Don’t doubt there is casual back and fourth, enough to know the interest level prior to FA, can’t have a blackout of family and chatter. Like all things, it’s not over till it’s signed. I do think we will see lindblom and JVR moved.

I hope they keep TK, one of the few that plays with speed and heart. If Provy goes, better have plan to replace, which would cost as much, no? Part of Johnny G coming would be him believing the Flyers have a plan for the next 3 years that gives them a chance to compete

So here’s the deal…. A friend of mine daughter has a condition that they have to go to childrens in Philly every 3 months for treatment. Well about year ago they were there wearing Sabres gear And their nurse says you in town watching game too? Says her fiancé plays hockey. Yep jg fiancé. Well my buddy wife and her become friends and talk to each other

Anyways so according to her jg definitely coming to east coast as now wife is in Philly and torn between philly and some other better east coast teams. Wife torn between leaving philly to move to Boston ny etc.

So after playoff run jg decided he and wife want to stay in Philly and as of a few days ago he’s agreed to sign in Philly.

Now obviously this can’t be leaked yet by some in the know per tampering rules but for hb debates moving forward he will be on roster.

He’s signing here. No details pervided of term or money just it’s a done deal they’ve agreed on the contract and it’s hush hush.

Hopefully they can add talent…..JG is that. Wouldn’t shock me at all, that JG would pick Philly based on what your suggesting. As some have properly stated, this could lead to potential problems, but I’m sure it happens all the time. As far as the cap space required, there’s a few pieces that could easily be moved. I think it’s doable.
