Making trades with Ken Holland should be at the top of every GMs to do list.

Yesterday was 10 years from the day the Lightning drafted Vasy.

How did they get that pick? A 3 team trade with Detroit and Colorado because Holland had to acquire a mediocre LD he once lost on waivers for nothing.

If they can make that type of move it's a no brainer

I do enjoy the 'how to fleece the Oilers' trade blogs. Even Oilers fans can't argue against it because they know what their GM is.

Hex just seems too conservative and tame as a GM for this kind of stuff haha.

Also, as I've mentioned before I have this sneaking feeling that a lot of the players we want moved (Dumo, Kap, Petts, etc) he really likes and isnt entertaining trading at all.

He’s not gonna go crazy making trades like JR but RH has a pretty respectable trade history.

Feds is correct. I think acquiring Puljujarvi is a type of trade Hex would make. He has had success trading for talent. He usually likes younger players. During his time with Philly he had a history of moving out players for cap space. So far with Pittsburgh he hasn't traded for cap space yet, but he has had a bunch of calculated moves which has helped this team.

They would be stupid not to try moves like this. Gotta dump Dumo. Could even get a pick from EDM.

Another name they should look at is Barrie. Hear me out before you freak out...

If the Pens lose Geno, they have few trade chips to work with and Marino seems to be a name that many teams are interested in. The easy example is VAN. If there's any modicum of truth that they want Marino and are looking to move JT Miller then Barrie could be a replacement that comes at a fairly low cost asset-wise.

I know Barrie is not very good defensively... ok, he sucks defensively, but paired with someone like Pettersson might be a good balance. He'd also NOT be playing for the Oilers, so he may be able to pull a Schultz for a year.

I'm not saying this is the BEST option or even a great option, but I'm not sure what the other options for a 2nd pairing RHD are, and it's an option to replace Marino. He probably won't cost much asset-wise because EDM needs to free up space and for the Pens it would be a virtual wash financially.

Agree with the conservative nature. But getting a young player while trading from a position of strength that makes room for another young player seems to fit his M.O. More so then trading picks or futures.

If Letang goes I wonder if Matheson gets a shot at top PP, or if they specifically add that type of player.

If Letang goes I suspect Marino now becomes untouchable. Someone like Barrie with Matheson would be an utter disaster. Then again, it depends if Marino paired with Matheson as a top unit is effective and Barrie would still be the 2nd RHD paired with Petts.

I don't LOVE the idea of Barrie, but I also don't hate it if push comes to shove.

Pretty amazing how bad the top 10 was in that 2012 draft.

You could make an easy argument the 11-20 picks ended up better than the 1-10 picks.

As bad as Holland is (and I agree he is), this is a pretty poopty blog concept though. The cap strapped Oil are going to trade a reasonably decent and cheap forward for 1 year of a 4.1 mil Dumoulin, while we still have Keith's brutal salary for said 1 yr, behind Nurse new brutal salary on the same left side, because........Holland.

One would think that if you are going to mock another for being stupid, you shouldn't be attempting to outdo them.

If the Pens need to fill an RHD position, a Dumoulin/Barrie swap might make sense for both sides. Yeah, you'd be spending too much down the left side, but Dumo fits the mould of a dman type you need and you're out of the contract after one year instead of being stuck to Barrie for two.

Barrie MIGHT be a reasonable fit for the Pens depending on how everything shakes out.

Not related but I noticed we've dressed seven players from that first round. No idea how common that is, it feel like a lot to me.

I don't think Barrie is as bad as most say. We are essentially replacing him with Bouchard, who was much worse defensively this year. If you do lose Letang, Barrie might be of value to you. If Keith were to retire (i don't see it happening), a Dumoulin swap might make some sense (especially if we can't re-sign Kulak). Lot of what-ifs though.

Lightning have 9 on their roster, Aves have 14 on theirs.

Rangers had 12, and Oilers had 12.

I know we used to have a couple posters familiar with Wilkes-Barre so hopefully I can get an answer here...is Mohegan Sun Arena the same as the old Wachovia Arena(haven't been to a Baby Pens game in forever), and if so is it still the same capacity?

It is the same, but has had upgrades. This is the timeline for names

Northeastern Pennsylvania Civic Arena and Convention Center (1998-2000)
First Union Arena at Casey Plaza (2000-2003)
Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza (2003-2010)
Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza (2010-present).

8,300 seat capacity. I believe it is more than it previously was. Highly recommend going to a game or two. Maybe even splurging on a box seat

Thank you so much. Wasn't asking for hockey lol. Just got a presale offer for Judas Priest's 50th anniversary tour with Queensryche in October. Priest is monstrous in a 19,000 seat arena, can't imagine them in a place that much smaller lol

From the 2012 first round?

That draft panned out to have a lot of talent. Not so much in the top end but definitely a deep group.

Not many hits. The two best picks were Forsberg and Vasy. It's not as bad as some of the mid-late 90s drafts, but it's definitely a C level draft, at best.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Dumo, Petts, Kap, Zucker, Mcginn, Erod and depending on the cost Malkin all gone. So much vanilla in that group.
