I originally was skeptical, but having taken the time to watch more of Wright from clips and games, he is the choice to make. He has fire. I think he can survive Montreal media.
Doug Wickenheiser would agree with that comment, lol Actually I think of this often and wonder why the Habs passed on homegrown Dennis Savard? It still make no sense to this day. I know hindsight is 20/20 but was a very bad decision.
Hughes has a real dream scenario playing out for him.
1. #1 pick Wright who I believe is going to be a total stud.
2. Kris Letang (a former Hughes client) is a UFA. Absolute stud, leader and from Quebec. Petry, your current #1 D wants out... you can trade him for a decent return and sign Letang as a huge, huge upgrade to your D.
3. Need to find a way to get rid of Price. Maybe he just junkies out again or maybe you need to trade away some assets to get rid of him. But could you imagine the improvement to that dressing room by adding another Quebecois veteran in Marc Andre Fleury?
Letang and Fleury have that winning pedigree, are still at the top of their game and are outstanding examples as pros for all of these young and ultra talented players to look up to.
Did I mention that Crosby's contract is up in another 3 years and the Habs were his childhood team? If they can get to be a contender and the Pens continue to fade, you bet your ass Sid would take a $1M per year salary while still a PPG player to help bring a cup to Montreal.
Why the hell would they sign Letang and Fleury if they're only going to continue to suck next season? That doesn't make sense from either the teams perspective, or the players.
Trade Petry for a high pick, absolutely. Guy definitely can return to form next season on a good squad.
Avoid all impact UFA's. Go for Bedard or another high-end pick in the draft, and then start adding for real at that time. Our young defence needs time to get experience and develop. They're not going to be ready for the playoffs next season.

3.The Habs should not be thinking of Fleury. He’s been ordinary in the playoffs and he reminds me of Stalock the way he’s flopping around in the butterfly leaving himself out of position and spitting out rebounds like gum balls from a machine. Morning skate suggests Talbot in tonight.

MAF is playoff money. The best clutch playoff goalie that has ever been available at a trade deadline. The Avs were desperate for him. The Oilers players were quietly texting players on the Blackhawks to try and convince MAF to come to Edmonton. In the end he went to Minny which makes them a true Cup contender.
At the time, I posted that MAF will witness a first round loss from a comfortable seat on the bench. Happening...
I hate to say this but he will fold under the enormous pressure in Montreal.
I would not want that burden on me. Too much to handle under the present circumstances.

True fantasy with this post. You might try writing for Adam Shifty Schiff
Don't forget MAF watching Matt Murray win back-to-back Cups. But, he still got his name on the Cup...so...he's clutch!!! - Cooleus
...and .857,.885, .885, .739 and .859 in the 2018 Final, or giving up 4 goals in one 5 minute major v San Jose and then giving up another one after Vegas tied it up in 2019 or his .767 in the playoffs in 2012 or his .891 in the playoffs in 2013 or his .891 in 2010 or his .899 in 2011, but who's counting? When you're Playoff Money!(tm), you're Playoff Money!(tm).

There's way too much chatter about trading the pick, 42 years since the last time they got 1st overall and they are going to deal it??
Also if they draft Wright, does that increase the chances they potentially lure Bergeron, you'd have 2 young centres that idolized and model their game after Bergeron.
And for next year apparently Bedard wants to be a Hab given his connection to Quebec. Could you imagine if they got both?
MAF is playoff money
Ya hear it all the time
Bill Guerin is cryin’
Brother, can you spare me a dime
Fleury is in a hurry
Tryin’ to catch Matt Murray
Even Elon’s wallet knows
Fleury is playoff money - Minnyhock
Wow, take a bow, that was pretty damned good. I'll never understand why Billy Geurin traded for MAF nor why Evason has started him in the playoffs. I'd wish you good luck tonight but I really don't want to play the Wild in the next round. I suspect Talbot is going to have a good game if he can shake the rust off early.

Trade Petry and Byron + Calgary's 1st to Detroit for Hronek
Over $5M cap dump for the Habs, and all involved are happier!

Thanks, but I’m keeping my day job. Much talk around the TC is that Guerin is making the calls on the goalie. My first thought when Fleury was announced for game one was that Guerin promised him the playoff net to get him there. Actually, as great a team that the Blues are, I think the Wild matchup better with the Avs.But the waste of 8 days comment by Sutter may apply to the 2nd round as well. The Avs are a juggernaut.
