I don't think Vasilievskiy had a bad game, I thought he played well for the most part.. Some of the goals (the 5th goal was his fault) but the first four goals were tough to stop for any goalie.. The Muzzin goal, he was screened... Matthews goal was an absolute rocket. Kampf was on a breakaway and Marner's was a pretty goal all around..
The Leafs as a 5 man unit were able to shut down Point, Stamkos and Kucherov. They did a really good job of taking away time and space from Hedman.

I think it really shook the Bolts that the Leafs could handle them like that. I feel like if they can come out of the first period game 2 with a lead Tampa will really start to unravel. The Bolts were really looking frustrated pretty quickly, and losing their head.

From a Tampa perspective :
1) It was evident from the puck drop that Toronto was more fired up. Expected that the Leafs would dominate the first several minutes in front of their home crowd. Weather the storm, settle in, play your game. I wasn't worried.
2) Clifford goes full Kadri and hits Colton - one of the cleanest players on the Lightning. If you are going to nail somebody early on, nail Perry or Maroon. Five minute major, time to bury the Leafs.
3) Leafs PK frustrates the Bolts and they can't even get set up. Soupy is never even threatened or tested. Sinking feeling begins to set in - if the Leafs kill off this major without the Bolts even threatening once, then it's not a good sign.
4) Leafs kill off that major and take control of the game. My drinking accelerates.
5) At the end of one, I am not that worried. Still lots of time. Lightning obviously didn't get the memo that the playoffs had started, so hopefully they get the memo during the first intermission.
6) Second period is just as bad as the first for the Bolts. I'm fairly poopfaced by the time the horn sounds to start the second intermission.
7) Third period is only a few fleeting glimpses of disappointment. A crippling combination of whiskey and weed is dulling my senses.
8) Wake up this morning and remember how the Bolts often lose the first game of a series, even when they come back and win the remainder. So, a little less worried, but still concerned. Hoping for split now and thinking this series will either be a Toronto sweep or a 7-game slog.

The Leafs shut down the middle of the ice on Tampa - 26 to 10 in blocked shots. Even the Stamkos whiff was from the side. I know it was his normal scoring spot but they couldn’t do much from the front if the net. Sounds eerily familiar to a certain series last year.

I need to know more of your drinking habits during future write ups.

They did a really good job of keeping everything to the outside and letting Campbell see the puck.
They were committed to a defense-first game and it showed. Even Nylander blocked a shot.

Dear Mr Stone:
The Committee has reviewed your application for Leaf fandom. You show many of the traits that would make an immediate member. There is one slight problem related to the very recent success of the team you have chosen to support. We are prepared to offer a deferred membership, convertible in say 56 years depending on the success of any team you cheer for in the meantime.
