any Helle trade would have to be made in connection to other big trades by the Jets. They would have to have a trade in place to bring in the next Jets goalie for 5-10 years as well.
as an example,
a Helle trade to the Avs that includes Newhook coming back
and
a Sheif trade to Florida that includes Knight coming back.
this is my train of thought - Ross77
This is kind of my train of thought as well - two separate deals. Hopefully in the two separate deals we could get included in the deals are a RH shot d-man, a young centre and a goalie with potential. (or proven)
We won't likely be able to deal with rebuilding teams like Detroit, Ottawa and Buffalo, but rather teams that feel they are that one piece away from Lord Stanley. Arizona with Chychrun are a possibility though. But another LH d-man?
It is quite possible that neither Scheifele nor Hellebuyck are dealt. We HAVE to get a good return - let's not forget that Scheifele has basically been our "Minister of Offense", and Hellebuyck has been our MVP, for umpteen years.
But besides bringing in new coaches, we can't stand pat with the players either. |

curious Jacob, do you have Ottawa or buffalo being competitive first? i know you have strong ties to Ottawa. don't be mad, but I have buffalo - Ross77
I will start by saying that I was raised an Ottawa fan. A part of me always will be, but I don't let that bias come through on my work.
Saying that, comparing Ottawa and Buffalo, I will still take Ottawa.
Top-6:
Tkachuk-Norris-Joseph
Formenton-Stutzle-Batherson
vs.
Skinner-Thompson-Olofsson
Tuch-Cozens-Okposo
I think it is a very easy call to say Ottawa here. Cozens and Thompson are going to be a great 1-2 punch, but I see Norris and Stutzle as 2 better centers, and those Sabres wings are getting older and very expensive.
Chabot-Zub
Sanderson-Hamonic
vs
Samualsson-Dahlin
Power-Jokihajru
I think Chabot and Dahlin cancel each other out, maybe a slight edge to Chabot today, but Dahlin will have that slight edge soon. Sanderson and Power also cancel each other out, as they are both phenomenal d-men. I will take Zub over both of Samualsson and Jokihajru, and Hamonic 4th of that list. Another toss up.
Forsberg
Murray? Gustavsson? Sogaard?
Anderson
Tokarski? Levi?
I really don't know with the goalies. Forsberg is the best goalie today. Levi looks like he is going to be fantastic, and Murray and Gus have been inconsistent. Sogaard is a wild card, he looks good, but his biggest feature is his size at 6'7. I will call that a wash, as I think Levi will be the best goalie out of that soon.
I do think the Senators are a lot closer to competing than the Sabres, though the Sabres may come out of all of this the better team. I don't think there is a wrong answer here

The Jets should trade Dillon, Pionk, Demelo, Schmidt, Toninato. This team has to move on from their horrible defense. Resign Svetch, PLD, Comrie and Harkins. The most important move is to hire a decent head coach and let him pick his own assistants. |

i agree, i think both finally look to be on right track. the Sabres also have Krebs, quinn and Peterka up front all coming next year and 3 more first rounders this year.

we can all argue a lot of different things but I do think we all agree, getting the right new coach and let him/her pick the assistants is the most important move this off season |

Oh absolutely. JJ Peterka is a super underrated player. Everyone knows Krebs and Quinn are stellar, but JJ looks like a real solid scoring middle-six guy. A quick look at each teams pools, ranked 1-5
Power
Quinn
Krebs
Levi
Peterka
vs.
Sanderson
Greig
Pinto
Thomson
Sogaard
While the Sens have had most of their top prospects graduate, it is still a very strong list. The Sabres, however, do still have those great forwards coming through the system. I think when these Sabres forwards are developed like the Senators have, it will basically be a draw between teams. Almost identical on paper.

hey don't knock it yet. Heinola is very good!! Samberg and Gus can be big contributors to this team, if not flashy and Lucius has been hurt, needs a full healthy season next year |

From a Senators perspective, Sanderson>Drysdale, but I totally see how Ducks fans are happy with Drysdale.
I think most teams take Sanderson over Drysdale, but many teams to need that ofeensive threat. If any of you think I am overhyping Sanderson, watch this:

Sanderson is very nice... but for us .. we needed a RHD who can skate and move. Not many 18/19 yr old D play in the best league in the world ..

Oh 100%. They are both fantastic prospects, just a matter of what you need on the back end. Senators already have Chabot, and still have hope Brannstrom can be what he shows signs of |

I'd lower my expectations on what you can get for players that are 2 years away from UFA status and can walk. There is a better argument to hold on to Scheifele and Hellebuyck and trade them next year when teams can get them signed to extensions.

My thought is that teams that are in the "win now" mode that don't do as well as expected in the playoffs this year (say one of Toronto, Florida, Pittsburgh, Boston) - would pay dearly for an upgrade (Scheifele, Hellebuyck) for next two years.
However, maybe you're right, teams won't pay as much for a player that's a UFA in two years, In that case then the Jets don't deal. For now!

first,
i asked what merit you saw in the Pitt deal? there was no picks included and doesnt make us better today or tomorrow or save on cap?
secondly,
did you see my examples of trades for Helle and Sheif? you take two top 5 teams in the NHL, Avs and FLA, you give them an absolutely better shot a winning the cup in those 2 years with Shief or Helle and you get back players that play on the Jets today!!! in Newhook and Knight, who replace that center and G position and they would be in or close to their prime years in 2 years. 2 years, not 4-5.
I'm not saying all trades have to be for future draft picks!!!!! - Ross77
I am confused. If the trades are not supposed to be for draft picks, then how are we going to have all these draft picks in 2023? |

do you think Helle and Shief would only bring back one player? is it not possible to get a player and pick? does it have to be one or the other?

Looking at when Ottawa did their rebuild. Neither Mark Stone nor Erik Karlsson got Ottawa a first round pick. Sure former first rounders were included, but no pick. |

Erik Karlsson got Ottawa a 1st round pick, pretty sure thats the pick that turned into Stutzle. |

Ottawa received forwards Chris Tierney and Rudolfs Balcers, defenseman Dylan DeMelo, the rights to unsigned forward Joshua Norris, a first-round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft or 2020 NHL Draft, a second-round pick in the 2019 draft, and two conditional draft picks. |
