who would you start a team with?...the greatest center of his generation or the greatest goal-scoring winger of his generation?...both of whom are amongst the best of all time...

i'll take the former, and that's nothing against ovie

How different would the cup resume look if Ovechkin had Malkin on his team all these years instead of Crosby having Malkin with him?

That's not to diminish the greatness of Crosby, but as we know, it takes much more than one great player to make a great team.

Probably won't happen, but Vegas is in a free fall and have the depth to do this.
Vegas: Olofsson (50% retained), Anderson and both there picks back

i proposed a brossoit for anderson trade where the sabres get back their third rounder (which might have been a tad much)...outright rejection by a couple people, "why would vegas do that?"

edit: but i'd do that trade in a heartbeat

Vegas wouldn't because Theodore is only making $5.2M.

Now, if he was making $8M+, it might be a different story.

I worry about seeing Vic go. I'm positive he has multiple 30g seasons in him. I wont be mad at all, but i worry a bit.

I could see Anderson to Vegas, maybe the Sabres help with their cap situation for a 2nd instead of a 3rd.

Sabres need to open up the check book for additional talent/ picks /prospects and hold salary

If Lehner Smith and Pacioretty are out for awhile Vegas could be in some trouble.

yeah...he's very valuable, but he's one of three highly valued golden knights lacking a nmc/ntc (jack and reilly smith)

Could be, but you are getting a damn good Dman on a great contract for 3 more years.

I'm not sure if the Sabres are sold on olofsson's down season. They have the medical records and can't give away a proven 20+ goal scorer.

I think he fits well, which is important. The other swedes have a comfortable fit together from what I understand.

If you're a GM, you just don't trade a quality player on a value contract unless the return is giant, and likely a big overpayment.

Example: Hagel from Chicago.

the thing about brossoit and anderson is that while the former has a better gaa (2.78 vs. 3.01) anderson has a slightly better sv% (.904 vs. .899,) he has just one less win (9 vs. 10) playing on a struggling at best sabres team and he's making $1.5M less

If he (Mayfield) won't sign an extension with the Sabres beyond next season, I'm not overpaying for essentially one season from him.

I agree 39, but Vegas could be in trouble and the only reason I keep bringing up Theodore is because that might be Vegas's strongest depth position.

Matt Haack news. The Bills modified his contract in such a way where they removed his base celery. They added a void year, so he's still under contract for the coming season. However, they can move on from him this offseason with zero penalty.

Nah - they zrestructured his contract to avoid the $500k roster bonus next week, or whatever it is. This contract may have a small bonus of $100k or whatever but they’ll bring in someone to challenge/beat him and eventually cut him. I believe they’ll draft a punter in rd 6 (the SD St guy if he’s still there - probably won’t be or the GA or Penn ST guy - all elite punters) and let him compete vs Haack. Rd 6 is when they drafted Bass and they have two 6ths this year.
- turbo044

Sorry turbo you are right, the guarantee was negotiated out of his revised contract not into it.

His contract and on ice performance are why a return of Olofsson, their 1st and their 2nd won't get it done.

There will be a line out the door for Theodore if he is available.

If I'm Vegas, I counter with Samuelsson and Peterka for Theodore, as they need quality players on ELC deals, not a forward who might save them $2M at most on the cap for next season.
