The organization kind of set up a lot of this when it comes to Jack. This "not wanting to be here" stuff is stupid. He didn't want to play for them anymore and any one of us would have done the same. The only thing I fault him for is the way he played his 21 games last season. People pay good money to see him, and he clearly wasn't trying. Come to find out, of course, he actually asked out the year before.

If he was telling the truth and they informed him that they were going to do another rebuild, why wouldn't any smart manager not want to move the top asset in order to fuel that build? If he is the cancer that some say he is then that should make it more desirable to move him.

My only problem with him is that he seems to have admitted that his heart wasn't in it last year and that he wasn't hurt. Again, maybe he felt the same hopelessness that we felt with Ralphie behind the bench and playing that system. I don't know what happened behind closed doors but he seemed like a guy that always busted his arse for this team.

Of course the grade is what it looks to be right now. I read a ton of what the draft experts have said about the prospects - there are so many that look great. The bigger point is that there isn't any reason to be down on him.

I don't know if he was full GM at that point. From what people have said Ralph was still calling the shots. Not extending 23 was surely a mistake.

I think they are aiming much higher than a Gorges type.

Not a whole hell of a lot of those (RHD) out there, and I have a difficult time seeing the ones that are agreeing to sign with the Sabres, unless it's a large overpay.

I said the other day that I don't think this season could have realistically gone any better than it has. Most nights we are watchable and I think we found out that we have a lot of key pieces going forward.

When Jack Eichle puts up a 120-point season you can mention him with McDavid who, incidentally, has played in the playoffs. Elite players like McDavid shouldn't be tarred with bums like Jack Eichle simply because they were in the same draft class. Compare McDavid with Marner if you want a good comp.

In fairness, Eichel signed a deal with a memorabilia company that allowed it to be the sole distributor of his name and likeness outside official team gear. I forgot the name of it. I would assume that company paid him a lot of money for that, so I would imagine he was getting pressure from said company to do that.
