I am so conflicted on Strome. Three months ago I was all for just getting rid of Strome even if it meant getting back some practice pucks and a few rolls of tape. Despite his warts, skating ability, very weak battling for pucks Strome has played well lately. Is Strome playing well because he cares or because it’s his contract year? I think you hit the nail on the head, he’s there for the money. I think Strome may turn out to be a mercenary who relaxes after his next contract. Tough call for Davidson, do you re-sign him hoping he continues to play quite well or does he lose his incentive and rest on his laurels with the new contract in hand? - paulr
He has played well since JC has been gone. Wouldn’t be the first time a different coach has gotten more from a player. |

True enough but he didn’t play well in Arizona either. Let’s hope if the Hawks do re-sign him it was a coach issue and not something else. |

Different attitudes between Debrincat and Strome isn't there? Cat's all in and wants to win. Strome is like meh. - boilermaker100
What kind of attitude would you have if you were actively trying to be traded by your team? |

Reflects the different status the players have on the team, what would be your response if you have been told every day that we are looking at shipping you out? - LAHawk

He didn't have much to play with in Arizona. He is as also sent up and down many times and healthy scratched too. Hard to get your game going when you are rarely playing. I don't care if they trade him or not but he seems like the type of player that develops slower. |

Needs to play with top 6 talent so he can utilize is passing ability and playmaking ability. Having strome in the bottom does help him. Agree if stays ok if traded ok also. |

Right on. For the last stretch Strome has shown reasons he went 3rd overall. No coincidence, and you don't need a scouts eye, his feet have been moving during his fine play. If engaged he truly is a top 6 C.
That's the million dollar question, is he just playing for a contract? Who can know what's in a person's head? Coincidentally in his contract yr he's improved near 6 percent better at the dot. Folks give reasons he's played poorly, JC, trade rumors, deployment, being scratched. .....
If that were me I'd be churnin, movin my feet and going full tilt to get traded, to move into the top 6, to stop being scratched, would have worked at getting better at the dot. He did none of that the last 2 yrs but of course the organIzation has been a train wreck too. .......... His lifetime fancies are poor despite Ozone starts way above 50% in his career. https://www.naturalstattr...d=8478440&sit=5v5&stype=2
I'd also add he's played 246 games and is in the breakout window.
Indeed, a riddle. If I had to make the call I'd give him no more than a prove it 2 yr bridge contract. If the soon to be 25 yr old lives up to it I'd move him for a 1st plus in a yr and a half......... A big caveat with Strome is Johnny. If the organIzation doesn't think Toews will ever be right again probably a good idea to pay Strome cuz after these two they have Dach and Reichel.
I think the safest thing to do is give him a 2 yr contract when all things are considered unless you think you can use the money to pay a middle 6 C from the open market. That player would probably have a higher floor and lower ceiling than Strome. |

It's too bad they don't (can't?) include stats-driven compensation in players' contracts beyond the ELC. Maybe make that the thing that could take a team over the cap rather than a luxury tax. Would also ensure you didn't have a lot of passengers during the season, no matter the team's standings. |

Interesting Strome and Kubalik put on the same line with Kane to showcase both.

KD needs to trade Strome NOW, his value will never be higher than it is right now (6th rounder, 5th if the Hawks retain 50%). |

This !!! Now get an NHL caliber coaching staff in here and we'll see what the difference is. Colliton and King are AHL at best. Just watch their PK vs any other team in the NHL. The 4 man box close to the goalie with zero pressure on the puck EVER is a disgrace. No wonder the Hawks have 3 dmen in the top 10 in blocked shots in the league. If you want to copy-cat a PK system, watch the Carolina Hurricanes. Fast and Aggressive creates momentum for your P-killers and it deflates the other team's offense.
Obviously I want a total change in this staff....and that means Crawford as well. He's been here long enough.

I hope KD takes a cue from what Zito did in Florida. He identified his defenseman were horrid, and made wholesale changes.

Agree would help to get really good defensive coach
I don't how but kd needs to move Seth Jones and his contract. And one of McCabe or Murphy has to be traded. |
