The dreaded upper body injury. Hopefully not another concussion. |

What will be refreshing is we as fans will likely get a little more transparency vs the McEgo led lock down. I can't even recall many, if any, interviews Bowman did mid-season and being open about his approach, etc. THought Davidson was pretty good last night with Eddie O, and Eddie O asked more tough questions in 2 minutes then the entire Hawks beat pool of lap dogs have in the last 10+ years.
I don't know if Kubalik is having that off year like DeBrincat had.....the one thing I'll say about DeBrincat that year he was still getting tons of chances and just having tough luck. I don't know if that's the case with Kubalik where he's getting the same amount of chances and just off due to confidence, etc....or if the league has figured him out and doesn't allow him to set up for his shot. He does seem to fan on a lot of shots this year where he could be pressing.
Strome....if they can get a 2nd round pick for him...take it and RUN. If they can get a 3rd round pick...I'd be happy.
Hawks need to get more guys who drive their own lines and less passengers. Too many guys are far too reliant on being paired with guys above their skill level to produce consistently. For depth? sure....but it seems to me they have far too many.
Thought Dach was moving well last night.
Think we need to pump the brakes on a few guys as some of these guys may be going balls out to showcase themselves to be dealt. Carpenter has been a lot better lately....same with DeHaan. - SteveRain
Yup. I think for a lot of these guys you gotta take what you can get. |

I am curious about the timing though. Less than 3 weeks to TDL. I guess I can see Kelley gone now because the draft isn't until July, and right now the Hawks don't even have a first round pick, but I guess Davidson doesn't like the input Stewart is giving him that he is saying no loss by letting him go now than after the season. - LAHawk
Well he just got the promotion so it makes sense to fire people now and have more time to hire before the draft.
My assumption is that tdl moves will be for futures that don’t required scout input

Soderblum one of the goalies at less than 1M, Kurashev, C Jones qualified at less than 1M each, Dach on a bridge 3x 2M, Mitchell at 925K. That's 5 players for 6M.
So 7 players and 16M to play with. T Johnson can be bought out reducing his 5M cap hit to 2.6M, so 18+M available.
Not saying Kubalik should be signed at 4M, I say trade him, but there are ways to work the cap.
Edit - Reichel another 925K player likely on the team next year. - boilermaker100 buy out Connolly also gives some cap space and big if towes retires would be 10.5 million on ltri. Plus I think Murphy or McCabe is traded. Imo they try and trade Jones but will have difficult time don't see him wanting to be on board with a rebuild. Possible teams that could take his contract and could use him Ottawa Buffalo Arizona.

I have no doubt that given his concussion history, it was smart to trade him when they did. He will likely never live up to his ability because he’s made of glass. |

Yep, Connolly another buyout candidate. IMO Toews will suck it up, work through his past illness and play next year.
Team will need veteran D men so Murphy, McCabe, Jones not going anywhere.
With or without Kubalik next year Hawks will manage the cap like TB, Toronto and others have done in the past. But like others have said his 4M could be better used elsewhere.

Exactly, those three plus Stillman, then two young Demen, maybe Mitchell is one of them. You can’t have too many rookies on defense, or offense, it’s just not the best way to develop them, even in a rebuild. |

Let's say Davidson makes a trade with a cap strapped team this summer to take a bad contract and getting a high pick or good prospect too.
Let's say the Hawks have about 5M left in cap space. MAF and Kubalik not signed yet. What's your choice. One year of MAF at 5M or Kubalik one year at 4M? Assuming Fleury is happy in Chicago and will play another year for 5M. |

QO's for players making over 1M are 100% of the players salary in the last year of his contract. Even though Kubs AAV is 3.7M he's making 4M this season so his QO is 4M. I think the deadline for a team to submit a QO to a player is June 29. No QO and the player becomes a free agent. Once qualified the team retains his rights. Player can accept the offer or continue to negotiate another contract, like 2 years at 3M. Kubalik also has arbitration rights and could go that route if he wants. - boilermaker100
Doesn't arbitration come into play with him and Suter as well?

They also mentioned that Scotty Bowman was the loudest voice pushing for Hammer over Niemi. Wondering how much of the decision-making on how to retool around The Core (TM) was Scotty's influence. |

Mr. Bowman is 88 years young now and said many times over the last few years that he wasn't really involved on a regular basis. He spends his winters in Florida and takes in Tampa Bay games so he knows what's going on around the league. His role with the Hawks was almost in an honorary role the last few years. Once Stan was gone Dad probably quietly disappeared too. |

Scotty also was a big backer of Marcus Kruger. He always loved players like Hammer, Marcus Kruger, Doug Jarvis, Doug Risebrough, Jimmy Roberts, Kris Draper, Kirk Maltby because he knew teams need players like that to win in the playoffs. |

Only certain RFAs have arbitration rights, and that is based on their number of years of professional experience as laid out in the CBA. For this window, the player’s base salary must be greater than $2,269,479.
Because this period comes before the Qualifying Offer is due, the arbitration election can be in lieu of that QO
The arbitrator is limited to an award no lower than 85% of the total of the previous year’s base salary, signing bonuses and performance bonuses. This window is rarely used unless a team thinks a player is overpaid, and that they can demonstrate that to an arbitrator and get an award below the QO. |

Imo offseason is important in two ways dies towes retire due to health concerns and goes on ltri and what players want to be part of a rebuild going forward. I m sure when Seth signed that extension he was under the notion hawks were going to compete in the playoffs. I wonder what he thinks now he is in supposedly prime years. Interesting next couple of weeks and offseason coming up for Davidson and company. |

The LTIR of Toews would only help if the Hawks were cap compliant on day 1. So you still have his cap hit to contend with, unless they trade the contract like the Hawks did with Seabrook. |
