Hains: Thanksgiving Time
The NHL has no game on the schedule today, our neighbours to the south are celebrating thanksgiving and the scheduling department has decided to give the players a day off, perhaps to allow them time to think what they are thankful for. |

I will be thankful when the Habs clean house, with someone that has a clear plan that has a higher probability to succeed, rather than these patchwork fixes that don't really fix anything.
And if that does not happen, let me start on the Bah-humbug now... |

Now do Pittsburgh, LA, Tampa Bay and Chicago
-Fredo
Pittsburgh in all seriousness, if they don't win that "lottery" in 2005 maybe there no team today - moved in a different city…
Tamba bay is probably the most well manage team in the NHL
Not sure what LA and Chicago have to do in a long rebuild conversation ? or did you Mean LA turned it around quicker than most by Keeping good vets ? |

You don't want a rebuild, but you want to trade away over 1/2 the team.
Disconnection, perhaps?
What are you realistically going to get in the trade market for those players that makes this team significantly better than it is today?
Nothing.
Better off taking the picks you can get, take on expiring contracts for additional picks and prospects and move on.
There is no short term fix for this team. |

That whoever is at the helm then will have realized that this team needs to be a seller and maximize its return on vets that won’t be there anymore when the Canadiens can aspire to be relevant again and yes, to me, that includes Carey Price.
while I don't necessarily disagree, do you honestly think there would be any takers, considering the contract he has? |

My list in the trade if you can had 6 names, fully implied you wont be able to have decent offers on all of them.
Very far from "half the team"

His willingness to be left unprotected at the expansion draft made that crystal clear and there is no doubt that Price would love to have another chance to capture hockey’s biggest prize.
With all due respect K.
You honestly think Seattle had a thought about taking Price?
Not a chance.. |

They did, Pete. Seattle didn't take him because MB lied and said Price may need every joint in his lower body replaced. |

You listed a bunch you also wanted to trade... But let's not focus on that.
Let's focus on what you are suggesting.
Here is the problem: what are those 6 players realistically going to bring back, if they can be traded?
Not much that can help this team.
All you are suggesting is continuing the trend that has failed this organization for the last 30 years. Patchwork trades to (sometimes) fix a problem in the short-term, but have longer-term ramifications (bad contracts, getting old, etc...).
And on top of that years of poor asset management, bad player development, cap killing contracts, c and d level free agents that do not work out with their bad contracts.
At some point, the Habs are going to have to realize this needs to be stripped down and rebuilt.
Do all rebuilds work perfectly?
No.
But maybe trying something new, when you have a few cornerstone young kids, makes more sense to try than another 30 years.of patchwork garbage that drives the same conversation and disappointments we've had for years. |

he needed a knee surgery, pretty obvious how there were health concerns to consider in his case, but sure, keep pushing the "controversy" loll |

If he didn't go to rehab he would have been in the opening line up. |

there is a logic behind what you're saying, but I feel the significant change that needs to happen is in terms of management, drafting and player development. these changes alone could definitely help putting this team on the right track again. |

If this team had 13-15 wins, I suspect Price would be more motivated to join.
At this point, I think he just cares about being ready for the Olympics.
Don't really blame him.

not sure he would necessarily have recovered from the surgery, and besides given his injury history it's not that hard to figure out it was surely the major concern for Seattle. |

Well, Seattle didn't take him and they still have goalie concerns.
IIRC MB went out of his way to say how his hip and knee may require major surgeries |

oh I don't blame him either, besides it would be pretty dumb to be mad at the guy considering he seeked help for substance abuse, which after a 30-day treatment surely hasn't magically disappeared. |
