Throwing me off with your timing today, Theo! I'm used to seeing you post right before I fall asleep.
Good to hear that Nylander is making an effort up in Rockford. Hopefully, that same effort would continue if he gets his chance. I have not been a fan of his for that reason.

Beach seemed very angry at Quenneville during his interview and I get that part of it.....and IMO...no Sopel an Boynton don't become some great people for admitting this 11+ years later and getting out in front of it, when they didn't say a damn thing about it back then.......I also believe Boynton married Jen-jen the radio personality at the time....think she didn't catch wind? Of course she did...so this media fabrication of not knowing....not buying it.... - SteveRain
Beach seems to believe that Q had multiple meetings regarding the situation after that initial meeting in McD's office. Not sure how he knows what the subject of the meetings were unless Gary or someone told him. I can understand that a player would look first to the coach (who happened to be the boss of the person who did this to you) as their primary protector and when that didn't happen, that's where your ire would fall.
Boynton did do the right thing at the time by bringing what he knew to Vincent.
Sopel sounds like he knew something, too, but didn't do anything beyond that. He has struck me throughout as someone who wants to insert himself into the story for attention and the kudos for being a "good guy." The article focused on his involvement talked a lot about the new business he's trying to get off the ground. I hope it's not that, but every big case has those people.
I don't know what either's motivation is for throwing the rest of their teammates under the bus and trying to paint themselves as better than the rest.
Neither the report found nor has Beach said that everyone definitely knew - in Beach's case, just that he believes/feels like everyone knew based on things some were saying to him. As I said in an earlier post, when this happens to you, it can feel that way and that everything being said or whispered is about you and what happened to you. Sopel and Boynton now saying everyone knew then could also "create" a memory of that time that wasn't there.
Not sure we will ever know who knew what, when and who did what to and for Beach at the time. We know Beach is grateful for what Sopel and Boynton have done for him during the case. Hoping some of it will come out and clear at least a few names we've been cheering on for years. Hope that some of his teammates get a chance to talk to Kyle and apologize, ESPECIALLY any who participated in the taunting. |

From last blog:
Worth remembering, too, that Gary was a wholly unprofessional, immature, douchebag himself. How much of what he was told was actually presented in a serious manner to the crew in McD's office?
I believe he was the one who took the matter to MacIsaac after he spoke with Doe about the incident. |

Quenville would have been his day to day contract with Hawks organization. You can't rule out that he perhaps harbours other ill will towards Q. Quenneville could have been particularly hard and critical of him in practice, Beach could blame Q as the reason he "never got his shot", other lesser coaches tend to use the Head Coach as a scapegoat when they criticize players performance "Q says you need to skate harder, Q says you need to watch your weight, Q says this, Q says that"
Beach needs to remember that he never actually told any of these guys this personally. He went through a "Go-Between" (Jim Gary) who according to the report either left out the actual details, or Beach wasn't totally forthcoming with Gary and Gary told them what he knew
Keep in mind, even during this investigation, Beach was inconsistent with his details, especially contradictory stories regarding the unnamed woman (which I believe was done on purpose with Beach thinking that she would never be found a decade later)
- TheGame316
Whatever you want to pick apart in Beach's testimony, obviously the investigators (hired by the Blackhawks) feel there is enough evidence that the Hawks (through it's employees and maybe Corporate execs) were covering up an assault. If the investigator's didn't believe Beach, or others that they interviewed, then the report would of been different, and nobody would have resigned.
The fact of the matter is, by not reporting the incident to HR, they (so as to not type each name) violated corporate policy. That is enough to get dismissed, whether you believe the claim or not. Doesn't matter what the results of the investigation is, but the fact they violated Corporate rules. |

The investigators did not come to a conclusion
They just did the investigation and compiled the testimony and info
It's the media that is trying this case and coming to their "conclusions"

A federal lawsuit filed by a former minor league assistant and his wife accuses the Penguins of negligently retaining a coach who sexually assaulted and harassed her and then retaliating against him for reporting the incident.

and awaaaay we go.
I don't like that others were hurt b/c of this toxic hockey environment, but we know they were, and it needs to come out if we expect change...too many other teams and fans of those teams are busy shooting arrows at Chicago as if it's unique to them, and as long as the powers that be and the public talk about it as if it is, the longer they can avoid working for change

it is Bill Guerin who USA Hockey was thinking of to replace Bowman as Olympic team GM.

It’s funny you say this. Leaf fans were tripping over themselves the last few days to rub Hawk fans noses in the horrible events of 2010 and the cover up completely overlooking the far more disgusting and horrible events perpetrated by Gordon Stuckless.

It's entirely possible that the 3some between Aldrich, Beach and the unnamed woman (Which Beach conveniently left out of his statements) turned into some guy/guy action that Aldrich probably initiated, or potentially coerced and that Beach felt dirty about after the fact
In the report, Vincent said that he approached Beach when he had "Heard some things" (How would Vincent have heard about it before Beach told anyone) and apparently Beach had somewhat grudgingly confirmed. If word got out, it was likely that Aldrich was telling stories, that's where rumours start and undoubtedly teasing not far after that (Given this was 2010).
If this is when Beach tried to get in front of it and downplay it and only told Gary that nothing had happened but that Aldrich had only "tried to get in the sheets" then the people involved didn't have the full story in 2010
Beach was less than forthcoming in the report, given all the different and contradictory statements. Hard to say how forthcoming he was back then
Sure, the Hawks should have informed HR and started an official investigation. But does that fall on all of them? Or the head guy (McD) who said that we would be the one to take care of it
When they saw/heard that Aldrich was let go, Is it fair that they thought the matter was resolved, especially if they weren't given the full scope of info?

I thought you told others there was no point in responding to my posts, the irony
And thanks for responding to the post about resigning, proved my point about the correction crowd. |

I would never tell anyone to do anything. There is no point in discussing hockey related matters because of your limited understanding of the game. Understanding seems to be the case in other matters like your inability to understand why someone is fired yet given an opportunity to resign.

Maybe it's the other way around because we aren't open to any information coming in. It's got to be embarrassing to be Canadian and keep blaming the forwards for all of the Hawks problems. You can do better

Today @ 1:12 PM ET
Not only did he have a bat, he had Beach’s career in the palm of his hand, or so Beach thought, add in that Beach wasn’t the brightest guy and I suspect very vulnerable, but mostly Beach is not you or me or any other poster who says “Beach should have ….”
- paulr
Isn't the same true for those who say "Q should have" or "Stan should have" or "player x should have"? That is the standard applied to everyone in the case. |

The Hawks are going to be a pariah organization for some time, facing the wrath of fans both on the road, and at the UC, as well as the press, for some time going forward.
I'm not sure that the pending announcement of the investigation findings didn't have some negative impact of the play on the ice. An organization in turmoil can impact people at all levels of that organization.
While this gives the Wirtz family time to put their internal house in order, it also presents an opportunity for JC and the players to take an 'us against the world' mentality on the ice.
I see 2 ways this can go. Either the players back down in the face of all the adversity (catcalls/boos/protests/etc.) and the team goes further south, or they rally around each other and improve their performance. Either way, it's going to be a bumpy road the rest of this season. |
