Lost in all of this are two very important words "insurance" and "money."

If Eichel, in any way gets his way and proceeds with surgery that the Sabres doctors and perhaps many if not all of the other team doctors would not wish him to have, then it is very likely that the insurance company will choose not to pay out the balance of his $50 million contract if that surgery does not fix Eichel's medical issue and renders him unable/unfit to play and as a result he wont get a penny for many years as the matter moves through the courts. No "insurance" and therefore no "money."

Its the only reason Eichel has not gone ahead with the surgery of his own choice. By going public with this issue, he has put himself at the edge of a cliff.

The only way he comes out Safe is if this panel rules in favor of his choice of surgery and if they don't he has to do what the Sabres doctors say, get healthy and come back with his tail between his legs and play for them like Tarasenko is for the Blues so he can be traded for proper value.....and if the surgery fails, go home and collect his "insurance money."

Spot on.
Only issue with your post I can see is
- IF he is granted permission to have the surgery of his choice through the Arb process
- AND it fails
guess who is on the hook for the remainder of that guaranteed contract?
I don't believe it would be the Insurance Company...as they would have their own T&C's that I would wager would be independent of the NHL's determination. The Standard of Care for the Insurance industry will stand on its' own. Not paying for the Surgery Procedure ( pales in contrast to the $50m), and no Contract payout by them.

Tim and Kerry.

Could you imagine the joy it would cause those two to write that check for 5 years.

I think he is one of those guys that would be the perfect 3rd line player on a championship team.

He has an $825K cap hit for this year and next.

At what point does Adams begin trying to extend Asplund further?

I see that our 2014 5th round draft pick Max Willman made it to the NHL with the Flyers. TMGM had 5 guys from that draft make the NHL but I think only Sam and Goaloffson are thought to be good players (Lemieux and Johansson being the others).

I think we're at just above a 3.0 gpg clip after tonight. Something like 3.1 or 3.2.

Anyway. Regardless of whether or not the goaltending can sustain (it can't), I think what we really have to ask is, will the secondary scoring remain? Can we be a team of "secondary scoring" this season, meaning, can everyone step up and contribute?

We need a few things to happen:

Skinner to hit 25 g's. Doesn't matter how. We need Mittelstadt back desperately, as he may be the only C on the team capable of getting him there.

Girgensons to stay healthy and get back to that 15g/15a form he had at the end of the Nolan-era.

A breakout player to emerge. Right now it's still anyone's guess, but I kept hammering on about Asplund last season needing more ice-time and more opportunities. He is like Larsson but with offensive upside. I think he will emerge as that Paille/Dumont/Barnes type of player, scoring big goals, becoming a fan favorite, and chipping in about 20 per. Tonight was evidence of his potential and I like his energy and body language - he is having a lot of FUN out there and that can be dangerous.

The defense needs to just be consistent. They will have bad nights - it's a young group. But they will have good nights, too.

Other than that, enjoy the early success, but I have a strange feeling the power is about to shift in the NHL with the soon-to-be sweeping changes and for whatever reason, I think the Sabres will fly under the radar until after the new year unless a huge Eichel trade goes down and shakes up the roster a bit.

But maybe we're at the point now where we were when GMTM gutted our prospect pool, it's too bad our superstar crybaby held his fart in too long and crapped his pants in front of everyone and is too embarrassed to show face.

I would honestly trade him to NYR for Zibanejad and a 1st and a prospect - be that Lafreniere or otherwise, I don't care. Be done with it. See ya.

Don't agree on the Mitts Skinner thing. Skinner has had plenty of chances without Mitts, he needs to start burying some of those.

The line of 'successful' draft is certainly arbitrary. He had 9 draft picks that year, with Reinhart, Lemieux, Johansson, Willman and Olofsson seeing NHL time.

A decent gauge of 'successful' is whether those guys see 100 NHL games in their career. So far, that's 3/9, and 2/9 aren't fringe NHLers.
