I wonder if the cuts will be announced today or tomorrow. I also wonder if O'Connor has the Pens second-guessing what to do with Boyle.

Poulin, Legare, Hallander, Bjorkqvist, Puustinen, Gruden, POJ, Alamari and Fedun all back to WBS. No surprises there.

Out of those forwards I thought Puustinen showed the most NHL-ready skillset. He didn't light up the world, but I didn't think he looked out of place. He will be an interesting one to watch.

Agree on Puustinen. Despite the lack of star talent, WBS will be very interesting this year

Seems like DOC, Boyle, and Simon are all pushing for spots. I feel Zohorna being able to clear waivers works against him for now. Lafferty and Angelo still hanging around but fading.

Not even sure with Jake and ZAR how many spots will be available opening night, but pretty soon everyone but Malkin should be healthy. (Immediately knocking on wood).

Crosby, Carter, Zucker, Guentzel, Rust, Kapanen, ZAR, Blueger, McGinn, Heinen, ERod take 11 spots, so all 3 of Boyle, DOC, and Simon could make it if they go with 7D run a full roster.

Was just thinking that WBS has some potential to make some noise if the kids show up haha.

I think to start the season our centers will be:
Carter, Blue, DOC, Zoho or Boyle. I say Zoho or Boyle because Boyle doesn't have a contract yet, if he gets one he'll be in over Zoho.

Non-related Pens news, but very entertaining...

The NHL CBA requires each NHL team to play at least six pre-season games. Carolina played four and guess who ratted them out: The Habs.

Montreal might want to focus on their own org considering they have players that keep taking leaves of absences and going into player assistance.

Hopefully DOC makes the team. Guy has lit it up this preseason. Does a lot of things right that he didnt do last year.

This preseason has seen some younger/fringe NHL players show us something... i think if anything, it shows the absolute stupidity in bringing in bottom 6 wingers from FA at inflated salaries. Use all of your cap to sign a more dynamic player. Penguins chose the former this year and a few years ago with Tanev.

Poulin didnt look great, but I liked Legare. I think right now, Legare is trending upwards whereas Poulin is pretty flat.

POJ also looks pretty underwhelming. Looked like he had no chance to make the team which isnt surprising given the depth chart... but was hoping we saw something from him that could justify a mid-year call up or something.

So we're going with 7 D. They probably want to have 14 forwards. Could mean they want to sign Boyle as well.

So he's black Pettersson.
- j.boyd919

Honestly, white Pettersson is a littler stronger and better. Judging from this preseason (which doesn't mean much), POJ and Poulin took a step back IMO. POJ might be serviceable as a callup.

Others are mentioning Puustinen. He looks like an interesting project. Got some skill. Skates well.

I don't think they needed to, but seems like they are. They could roll Carter, Blue, DOC, Zoho till Sid comes back.

I'm not sure why it means we're going with 7.

Like as in 7 Dmen on the roster. Not all playing at the same time.

And Feds is a Pens fan, who somehow oversees that DET will make a noticeable step forward this season.

According to DK Sports: They don't have to be assigned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton immediately after clearing. After clearing waivers, a player can stay on the active NHL roster for up to 10 games played or 30 days -- whichever comes first -- before they would need waivers again to be re-assigned to the minors.

If Riikola clears and is assigned to Wilkes-Barre, only $1.125 million of his cap hit would come off of the Penguins' books because he's on a one-way contract. The other $25,000 of his cap hit would still count even while he's in Wilkes-Barre.

I believe he's being sent down so they can clear some space for Boyle. That would be my guess, if Boyle doesn't cut it by the time Sid is back I'm sure they will send Boyle down and keep Rikki otherwise Rikki will be headed to WBS.

I was thinking, why doesn't the NHL allow teams to put scratched players in if there's injuries? You could even have to wait for intermission to do so. Say a forward gets injured in the first, you should be able to activate a scratched forward in the second period.
